Visiting Our AfriTwin

Over the half term break, Mrs Roberts had the pleasure of visiting our AfriTwin school Simons Town High in South Africa.

AfriTwin partnershipI had the great pleasure of spending the half term holidays visiting our twin school, Simon’s Town High in South Africa. This was part of our Afri Twin link which is aimed at developing Mosslands students as Global Citizens. It was a wonderful experience to be welcomed into the school by the Principal, Mrs Jean Human, and to spend time with the delightful staff and pupils, in a culture which is massively different to our own.

Many trips were organised by Mrs Harrison (who visited Mosslands in September) including: The District 6 Museum, The Heart of Cape Town Museum, where Christiaan Barnard performed the world's first heart transplant, The Southern Cape Schools Athletics Championship and Robben Island (where Nelson Mandela spent most of his 27 years in prison). Our schools are now planning a joint project entitled 'Let's Make a Difference' which will focus on our impact on the environment (particularly maritime and coastal), outdoor education with healthy lifestyles and voluntary work within the community.

The next stage of the link is to take a small group of Mosslands boys to Cape Town to experience South African culture and to help pupils from Simon’ s Town to raise the funds to be able to visit Mosslands. This is a fantastic opportunity for students who are passionate about making a difference. If you are interested in becoming part of the team, please speak to me in AX4.
