On Wednesday 6th March a team of  undergraduate students from the University of Liverpool Debating Society visited school and worked with 30 Year 10 pupils.

The undergraduate students helped pupils understand the fundamentals of Debate in the classroom. After being challenged to debate effectively, pupils were introduced to the basic principles of debate, how to organise cases, how to attack and defend arguments, how to compose and present debate speeches, and how to evaluate classroom debates. Pupils explored issues around a wide range of issues in groups.

This was a very engaging learning experience for pupils working with university students, and supported GCSE speaking and listening work.

Phoebe Jackson from the University of Liverpool Debating Society, ‘ We really enjoyed working with the Year 10 pupils at Mosslands. We were impressed with both their knowledge and enthusiasm. The pupils grasped the techniques of debating very quickly, and were very articulate in their presentation’
