In Fond Memory

We unveil a plaque in memory of Chair of Governors, Anne McArdle, who sadly lost her brave fight with cancer in December 2012

A PLAQUE in honour of Anne McArdle, Wirral councillor and former Chair of Governors at The Mosslands School, was unveiled at the school this week.

Mrs McArdle’s family – including her husband Bill, brother Rob, two children and three grandchildren – were joined by headteacher Adrian Whiteley to unveil the plaque, which pays tribute to her five year tenure as Chair of Governors at the Wallasey school.

Mrs McArdle lost a brave battle against cancer in November 2012. She was a driving force at The Mosslands School, overseeing a significant improvement in exam results and playing a key part in the appointment of Mr Whiteley as headteacher.

Mr Whiteley said: “Anne had a huge role in the life of the school; she was very supportive of both staff and pupils and driven about the quality of education here. It was a passion that she used as a force for good for both the school and the local community.

“As such we thought it would be fitting to make sure that she is never forgotten here – this plaque is a token of our thanks. Anne was immensely influential in steering the school forwards and was a pillar of strength in difficult times.  She played a significant role in the most recent Ofsted inspection, where governance was recognised as being a significant strength.”

Mr Whiteley also presented a cheque, in accordance with Mrs McArdle’s wishes, to a representative from the Marie Curie Cancer Care charity.

Mrs McArdle’s husband Bill said: “Anne was very much into working for the people in her community, it was all part of her make-up. This is a lovely honour and we are very thankful for this plaque, which is a real tribute to her memory.

Her strength and vision will be sadly missed

“The day was made even more special as we were joined by our daughter Julie as well as our son Marc, who is a former pupil at the school and has travelled over from America with his wife and our three grandchildren, Morgan, Brendon and Isabella. They were given a tour and met the headmaster – I’m sure that they will leave with some great memories of their grandmother and of their visit to The Mosslands School.”
