Mosslands Literacy News

In September, The Mosslands School will be running a major literacy event at school which will include visits from well-known authors.

We will also be running a book challenge and will be looking for the best book review!

The Wirral Globe reports:

WIRRAL youngsters are being “dared” to read as many books as they can as the Summer Reading Challenge kicks off.

Launched on July 5, this year’s theme, ‘Creepy House,’ will see children gaining access to different parts of the house as they work through their six-book quest.

Around 8,000 Wirral children signed up to the scheme last year with almost 4,000 completing the challenge during the summer holidays.

Cllr Chris Meaden, cabinet member for health and wellbeing said: “Last year’s challenge was a huge success, and I can’t wait to see how this year’s subject grabs children’s attention.

“I’m not sure I’m brave enough to get involved with such a spooky challenge, but it’s just the sort of thing to keep kids in suspense as they keep up their reading through the summer.”

An interactive Creepy House website (www.creepy-house.org.uk) has also just launched linking children with top authors and illustrators, and giving them space to share reading and writing ideas.
