The challenge will take them 12 days and will take place in July of 2014 after their A Level examinations.  Each day they will cycle between 65 and 100 miles, covering a total distance of 960 miles ‘end to end’.  As well as fulfilling the requirements of their DofE award, the group are fundraising for the MIND mental health charity.

The students have been training hard since the inception of the challenge in June.  They have completed a 5 day training camp in the New Forest accompanied by Mr Jones, Mrs Cawthorne and Mr Bird.

Individually they have ridden a number of day rides to increase fitness and stamina.  On Sunday 29th September, the students rode for the first time with the volunteers that will accompany them throughout the challenge.  The group of 11 covered a 55 mile route out onto the plains of Cheshire stopping at the ice cream farm and the world famous Eureka cyclists café for refreshments.  Training rides in the future will venture into the Welsh hills and take in parts of the 2014 Yorkshire Tour de France route.

The group are using Twitter as a means of ‘blogging’ about their training and the challenge itself.  You can follow them at @MosslandsE2E to keep up to date with their progress in training and the challenge itself.  If you would be interested in sponsoring the students in any way please contact Mr G. Jones at school.
