Year 7, 5 a Side Football - Merseyside Champions

The 8 boys from Mosslands School Year7 football team competed in the Merseyside finals

The 8 boys from Mosslands School Year7 football team competed in the Merseyside finals at Kirkby High School on Wednesday 28th January.  The competition was tough with schools from both the Wirral and Liverpool vying for the title.  Mosslands got off to a winning start beating hosts Kirby High School 1-0 with Lewis Warrington getting the important goal and Kirkby missing a penalty in the last minute.

The second game was much more entertaining and after a battling performance to come back to 2-2 after being 2-0 down, Mosslands conceded a third to Halewood and were beaten. However, results went Mosslands way and this meant a win in the final game and defeat for Halewood against Kirkby would mean the tournament would go to goal difference.  In the final game against Ridgeway the Mosslands team put in a excellent performance and won 3-0, Anthony Evans getting the goal that would ultimately prove to be the most decisive of the evening. The boys' performance and attitude was praised by all staff at the event and it was felt that Mosslands were worthy winners.

The result means that the Mosslands U12 five a side team will compete at the Powerleague Soccer Centre in Manchester in the ESFA Area B finals.

Mr Lightwing has praised his team and looks forward to the area finals.

Well done!
