One-to-One Tuition Programme

The Mosslands School and the One-to-One Tuition Programme - A Triumph for all!

The Mosslands School is always looking for ways to support its students flourish and achieve their potential. In September the school signed up to the One-to-One Tuition Programme as part of a national programme to support students develop their literacy and numeracy skills at KS3. As a school we decided to focus on supporting the development of literacy in Year 7 as part of a broader interventions strategy aimed at raising standards.

This year 49 students have taken part in the programme with stunning results. The attendance at these sessions has been excellent throughout the year and the overwhelming number of students have made significant improvement in identified areas of study. The commitment of our students and parents to the programme has been first class. The work of of our tutors has been outstanding and has been a key factor in driving the programme forward to deliver high quality outcomes for the pupils. In particular, the expertise of the Head of English, Mr D Jones, has been invaluable in putting together a range of engaging lesson activities and resources. The work of Ms H Speed, the SLT Administrator, Mrs K Higgins, School's Business Manager, Mrs M McDonald, Data Team, and the Year 7 Office particularly, Mrs D Cawthorne, has ensured that parents have been kept informed and the programme has run smoothly throughout the year. I would also like to thank all the members of the School's Caretaking Team who ensured that the programme ran smoothly in the evenings from September to June by keeping the premises open for staff, students and parents to access. It really has been a team effort in supporting all the boys.

The One-to-One Tuition Programme encapsulates so much that is positive about the school. I have listed below some of the views of the staff and students involved with the programme in order to provide you with a flavour of the work that has been undertaken this year:

"...my tutee was great he kept going until he got it...my boys were really engaged with the work..."

"...my tutor made the work really interesting and I feel more confident now...my tutor told me that I could do it and in the end I did get it..."

Finally, the school has also been recognised by the Local Authority as an example of best practice in relation to the One-to-One Tuition Programme - the school has lived up to (and excelled) in its aims of care, commitment and challenge for all students - well done one and all!
