Covid 19 - Summer Term Letter

20 April 2020

Dear Parents/Carers

I hope you all had a restful Easter break and welcome to our very first remote summer term.

It has definitely been a strange and challenging time, so it is understandable if you and your son feel anxious and frustrated at the moment. We have all had to adapt to new ways of working, so I wanted to take the chance to say what a great job you’re doing supporting your child’s wellbeing and learning during this time and supporting our NHS by keeping children at home.

Remember, if you have any concerns about helping your child learn or you need any other support from the school, please let us know either by calling school on the normal number, by emailing your son’s head of house or through Google Classroom. If your child has any issues at all, they should contact us as soon as possible so that we can help.

We miss having the pupils in school, but we must continue to follow the government’s guidance to keep everyone in our community safe. We will be carrying on with Google Classroom and the tasks outlined on the school website, so please check that these are being accessed. For those who are struggling to access the work electronically the paper packs are being refreshed this week and will be available from the school office. Please contact the office to check they are ready before coming to collect.

Our staff will be setting work throughout the summer term until school re-opens. Please remind your son to take breaks away from screens as well as making time for having fun and connecting with friends and family.

While we can’t say yet when we’ll be able to open the school fully, rest assured that we’ll continue doing our utmost to keep pupils learning and the school connected.

For students in years 7-10, I have attached a basic timetable guide to give you an idea about how to structure your son’s learning at home if you are unsure about how much is expected. This is not a fixed timetable, I understand that there are many other factors that may affect your situation, but I do not want any pupils to be left behind.

For students in year 11, keep visiting your class and school information, we are awaiting guidance on evidence requirements for your examinations and we will contact you as soon as we have more information. In the meantime, you will be shortly receiving further information about how to access work in preparation for A level and level 3 courses for next year.

Yours faithfully

Mr Adrian Whiteley

Headteacher.
