3…2…1 Blast off

On the 13th May our team of Year 8’s, Hunter Anderton, Jared Nelson, Daniel Pritchard, Ellis Reid, Jack Rylance and Guy Wilson were kindly invited by The Institute of Engineering and Technology at Liverpool University to  take part in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths) competition called the Faraday Challenge

The Faraday Challenge was to build a prototype rocket and rocket carrying vehicle.

The first stage was to design both a rocket and a vehicle (to transport the rocket to launch site) then we had to decide what available materials to make them from.

The Second Stage was to construct the rocket and the vehicle. To get the materials you had to buy them from the stores but you were only allowed to spend a maximum of 130 “Faradays”. Each team started with 130 Faradays so budgeting played a part in the Challenge.

The Third Stage was to test our models before the big presentation and then to make necessary changes.

The Final stage was The Big Presentation. Each team had to deliver a presentation to the judges about how they made their working models, how they worked and what contribution each member of the team made. We also had to show that the rocket and the rocket transporter worked. The rocket transporter had to travel 3 metres and the rockets had to fly when pressurised with air on the launcher.

We did really well and managed to come second and although it was disappointing not to win, we had a great day and it was fun building and firing the rocket.
