In year 7 pupils undertake a project based on the Government’s Well-being Plate. This introduces them to different food groups and the nutrients that are gained from each of them. They will create their own ragu sauce and their own pasta. In addition to this they will make a vegetable stir fry and a fruit based smoothie.
This year concentrates on investigating the functions of ingredients and industrially produced food. They will experiment and trial cooking their own bread using different flour types and different raising agents. Next they look at different packaging and labelling information. This leads to them producing packaging for their final cooked product.
In this year they will look at all the elements of a healthy packed lunch. They will use the knowledge and skills gained from the previous two years to develop various food products that will make up a healthy packed lunchbox. This will be created with a target market in mind.
