Geography

Year 7

During the year the pupils have studied the characteristics of settlement, earthquakes and volcanoes, crime and map skills.  The topics and teaching techniques have encouraged pupils to develop a wide range of skills and learning abilities, including decision making, presentation skills and thinking skills.  The provision of the Year 7 Geography club, which many pupils have attended, has developed pupils’ knowledge outside of the classroom.  The ethos of the Geography curriculum at Mosslands is to create challenging and enjoyable resources and lessons that develop pupils’ skill set and enable them to progress in their attainment in the future.  


Year 8

During the year the pupils have studied the character of Brazil, equatorial rainforests, ecosystems, Italy, industry, energy and tourism.  The topics and teaching techniques have encouraged pupils to develop a wide range of skills and learning abilities, including decision making, communication and thinking skills.  The ethos of the Geography curriculum at Mosslands is to create challenging and enjoyable resources and lessons that develop pupils’ skill set and enable them to progress in their attainment in the future.  


Year 9

During Year 9 the pupils have studied coastal landforms and hazards, weather and climate, including hurricanes and tornados and development and globalisation.  The scheme of work allows the students to experience a wide range of teaching and learning styles with extensive use of the ICT facilities.  Pupils are consistently challenged in their thinking skills and their ability to adapt to a variety of tasks and activities.
