Gifted & Talented STEM
As a “STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths) Centre of Excellence” Mosslands School recognises the future employment prospects for STEM careers across a range of abilities and we aim to give Mosslands students an insight into these potential career paths.
Through Mosslands commitment to STEM, we pride ourselves on now providing the best opportunities to students, both within and outside of school, (Further and Higher Educational establishments) and by visiting environments where they can experience ways in which STEM based subjects are applied in the real world. We believe visits to industry provide inspiring educational experiences for Mosslands students destined for STEM careers.
Some of Mosslands STEM related activities have included visits to Deeside Power Station, National grid, Unilever, Vauxhall’s, Chemistry at work at Daresbury labs, Teen Tech at Glyndwr University and Faraday and “Make it – Enterprises” Challenges. Mosslands has also been engaged with STEM activities with Liverpool University, Liverpool John Moores University, West Cheshire College, Wirral Metropolitan College, the Institute of Physics and Institution of Electrical Engineers and we have also attended “The Big Bang Shows” at both Birmingham NEC and Aintree.
Ron Faulkner, the Merseyside and North Wales regional chairman of the Institute of Mechanical Engineers; said after Mosslands Year 7 attended the “Education in the Fast Lane - Bloodhound SSC - Preparing to break the Land Speed Record!” event at Liverpool University
I was very impressed with their knowledge, attention and interest, all of which augers well for their future and for the engineering profession as a whole.
Well done boys!
