About the course:

The Protective Services Academy – Sport and Activity Leaders programme is a bespoke academic and personal development programme designed for 16-19 year olds interested in a career in sport or the outdoors. However, have not quite achieved the entry requirements for immediate progression to Level 3 study and would benefit from another year before progressing.

This programme will provide its student with a nationally recognised qualification as well as the knowledge, leadership skills and physical & mental robustness that will support them move successfully on to level 3 study employment/apprenticeship on completion.

What does this qualification cover?

At Protective Services Academy we ensure that upon completion, all recruits are fully prepared for all progression options either academic or employment. We achieve this through the delivery of a bespoke three-part programme…

Education – BTEC Level 2 Technical Diploma in Sport and Activity Leaders, GCSE/Functional Skills Maths and English

Health and Fitness – Physical Training, Sports, Mental Resilience Training (MRT), Health and lifestyle education

Careers, Employment and Personal Development - Careers and Employment, First Aid, Duke of Edinburgh, Leadership and multiple trips and visits

What is expected of you?

At the Protective Services Academy, we are not after a “specific” type of student but we are after individuals who are willing to try new things, show commitment and grit, have a good sense of humour but most importantly have a desire to succeed, better themselves and those around them.

Attendance and Punctuality are of upmost importance, simply put… if you are not in class, taking part in practical based session or attending trips and visits, you will not be developing the skills, qualities and knowledge that you require to fulfil your potential.

How will you be assessed?

On this Level 2 Technical Diploma, you will undertake 7 units, TWO units, Unit 1 Leading Sport Safely and Effectively and Unit 2 Working in Sport and Activity Leadership will be assessed through external assessment.

The remaining 5 units will be assessed internal and internal synoptic assessments through coursework, presentations, practical demonstrations etc.

What it prepares you for:

BTEC Level 2 Technical Diploma in Sport and Activity Leaders is a nationally recognised qualification, which provides clear progression routes on to;

  • Other Level 2 vocational qualifications and related qualifications in the protective services
  • Level three vocational qualifications such as BTEC Nationals and Technical Qualifications
