At Mosslands our aim is to create a STE@M-literate community, which means not just knowing what the acronym stands for, but also having a fuller understanding of the impact STE@M topics have on society.
All students at Mosslands engage with Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Maths. These STE@M subjects are valuable not only because they can lead to exciting, rewarding careers options but also because they enable students to become active citizens in an increasingly technological society.
Our STE@M scholars programme offers further opportunities to “experience” STE@M through a variety of visits, projects and problem-solving activities, rather than just learn it! By visiting STE@M industries, students get to experience the wonderment of modern technologies and to appreciate how the skills, knowledge and attitudes they develop in the classroom translates to life in the modern workplace.
Within the last 2 years, Mosslands has visited Toyota, Vauxhall, 2 power stations, Veolia Recycling and Silverstone. We have worked with 5 Universities as well as organisations such as Institute of Physics, Royal Society of Chemistry, Institute of Engineering and Technology, Engineering Construction Industry Training Board. Our students have benefited from regular visits to the Science and Technology Facilities Council’s Daresbury Laboratories and worked extensively with MerseySTEM, The Smallpeice Educational STEM Trust and Tomorrow’s Engineers.
Through the opportunities we on offer at Mosslands, we know that our students have huge amounts of fun (building robots and mini F1 race cars), whilst participating in numerous hands on activities. We feel STE@M develops them as individuals and most importantly, it is here that they are able to gain an insight into the pathways to future glittering STE@M careers.
