Skills

Complete three home study tasks from the following this half term:

  1. Draw a floor plan for a room in your house and indicate where you can see examples of the skills you have been working on in class.
  2. Find a local supplier and the cost of one of the following:
  • -20 m of skirting boards, and 2 doors (760mmx2000mm)
  • -10m 15mm copper pipe and 2 bath taps
  • -12m twin and earth cable and 3 double sockets
  1. Provide details of three local companies where you could buy one of the following:
  • -plumbing supplies
  • -Electrical supplies
  • -joinery supplies
  1. Investigate how you would apply for planning permission for a small house extension.
  2. Visit a new housing development and collect examples of site plans, house plans etc.
  3. Investigate how building companies can be more environmentally friendly.
  4. Visit the local recycling centre and investigate what materials can be individually recycled.
  5. Watch an episode of Grand Designs and write a short report on construction methods used or how sustainability is achieved.

  3. Investigate planning for building on brownfield sites.
  4. Discuss how construction projects have an impact on wildlife, flora and fauna.
  5. Discuss how pollution can be minimised on a construction site.
  6. Give examples of any site security you have seen around local building sites.
  7. Explain what good housekeeping means on a construction sites.
  8. Summarise the Working at Height regulations.
  9. Draw a safety sign relevant to your work on the garden site.
