Key Stage 4

The department offers Edexcel GCSE Music and the specification will develop students' understanding and appreciation of a range of different kinds of music. It will also extend their own interests and increase their ability to make judgements about musical quality whilst developing broader life-skills and attributes, including critical and creative thinking, aesthetic sensitivity and emotional and cultural development.

Each student, in consultation with their subject staff (and any instrumental tutor), will perform a solo and group piece of their choice. The compositional element offers two exam compositions for their folio, each from a different area of study pursued as a part of the Listening and Appraising unit. This is examined in a paper with CD listening extracts. Several of our students progress onto AS Music or to BTEC/GNVQ courses at post 16.
