Careers

This week, two groups of Year 10 students went to The Hive's What's Next? Skills Show organised by Career Connect. Students had the opportunity to interact with over 40 local employers/training providers/FE and HE providers. The students particularly enjoyed practising CPR with the North West Ambulance Service, trying on the Army uniforms and spinning the decks with Mode Training. This event was organised to increase awareness of options post 16.

Also this week, a group of Year 8 pupils took part in a presentation by the NFU, assisted by a local farmer, to raise awareness of careers in the farming and associated industries.

Next week, a group of students will be working with Liverpool John Moores University looking at access to university.

PSHE

Next week, we are again offering cycle safety training to pupils. There are 3 groups and parents have been emailed details. Form tutors have also given details direct to pupils in years 7, 8 and 9.

Debate Mate

After a successful trip to the launch event at Liverpool John Moores University this week, it's safe to say there's mild hype around Debate Club (which commences Wednesday 15th @3:30 in the library and will last an hour).

On Tuesday, students spent the morning experiencing a live debate regarding whether students should select their own headteacher. The discussion was lively, to say the least! Special thanks to these young men who represented the school fantastically.

Ski Trip 2025

This week, our exciting ski trip to Austria in March 2025 was launched. Letters were emailed home earlier today and students who are interested will need to pay a deposit of £100 by Monday 27th November.

Library

In honour of Remembrance Day, this week's Book of the Week is Dominic Sandbook's Adventure in Time: The First World War. Travel back in time to the First World War, as historian Dominic Sandbrook takes us from the soaring heights of an aeroplane cockpit to the desperate depths of the enemy trenches. We are plunged first hand into a conflict like no other as, amid the greatest clash of empires ever known, the future of the world hangs in the balance.

On Thursday 30th November we will be holding another Readathon for our dedicated readers. Students will be completing a sponsored read in the library for the entire day and raising money so that children in hospital can access the latest books, authors and storytellers.  This is always a brilliant day and spaces to get involved are filling up fast.  If you would like to sponsor our students and help raise money for such a worthy cause, please scan this QR Code or click this link https://readathon.secure.force.com/sponsor.

If you would like to keep up to date with the latest library events, book recommendations and more, please follow @library_mosslands on Instagram.

Christmas Dinner

Christmas dinner will be served in the canteen on Thursday 7th December. There will be a vegetarian option and sandwiches, but no other food will be served that day.

Parking on Mosslands Drive

Please remember to park responsibly on Mosslands Drive if you are dropping off or picking up your child. Please do not park across driveways and room must always be left to allow emergency vehicles to pass. Plans are in place for more on-site parking in our new school with better access for traffic.

Reporting an Absence

Parents must telephone the school attendance line (0151 638 8131, option 1) on the first day of absence before 8.45am and on each subsequent day of absence. It is our duty to keep your child safe, so if you do not inform us, you will receive a truancy call. You will receive 6 further calls until you respond.  The number which will display as an incoming call is a Sheffield number, 0114 303 4042.

Medication in School

If you have any questions or concerns regarding medication in school, please contact the SEND Department. Students should not bring medication into school and any medication should be registered at reception. If your child is diagnosed as being asthmatic, following on from medical guidelines, please ensure they have an inhaler on then at all times and that we hold a spare within school. Many thanks.
