A Message from Mr. Whiteley

My congratulations go to all the parents of Year 11s who enjoyed heart-warming clearance celebrations last Thursday.  As ever, the atmosphere was really positive, and it was great to see the clear affection between students and staff on their last day.  We look forward to results day and hope that their hard work and efforts are reflected in the grades they receive.

I would also like to congratulate Y10 for their conduct in the first of their formal examinations.  Not only were they extremely well-behaved as always, but also their efforts were commendable in tackling full papers so early into their GCSE journey.  Although some students are concerned about their grades from this round, I would like to reassure them and all parents that this is a staging point and that we expect students to make 2, 3 and 4 levels of progress from this point until their final examinations next year and that this year group shows tremendous promise.

Y9 parents should know that their children are starting their preparation for KS4 and have already had their first interactions with the apprentice provider network and a World of Work Day that has been kindly provided by Willmott Dixon, the construction company that will be building our new school, starting in the autumn term.  Their engagement with the programme has been excellent, and Willmott Dixon look forward to employing some of them in the future.  They described Y9 as having outstanding young men.

We would like to welcome back the students from the history trip to Munich, who arrived home early this morning and wish bon voyage to the students going to Paris with MFL next week.

Thanks, as always, go to all the Y7 and 8s who helped out at our open evening last week, making it such a success.  They are our best ambassadors and a credit to us and to their parents.

We would also like to extend a warm welcome to our new students who start with us in September.  The new parents' evening was very well attended, and I thank all those parents for their support in what will be a big step in their children's lives.  We look forward to next week's induction day and to meeting them properly in September.  I would also remind you that if friends or family are still looking for a school place for September, we do have some spaces this year.

Trips

There has been a change of meeting time for the Paris trip. Due to getting an earlier ferry, we will need all students to meet outside school on Monday 30th June at 3:45am instead of the original 4:45am. The coach will be departing at 4:05am. Please make sure you are at The Mosslands School for 3:45am on Monday.

The final payment date for Iceland is Monday 30th June.

The second deposit for Berlin is due by 15th July.

There are still places available on the 2026 ski trip.

Students taking part in the expedition in July for their Bronze DofE must have paid in full before departure.

All of these trips are available on MCAS.

Next week Miss Farnell will be taking students out of school as a reward for 100% attendance in May and June.

Message from Mrs. Treanor, our school SENDCO
The summer holidays can be a particularly challenging time for many of our young people with SEND, due to changes in routine, less social interaction, and uncertainty about the transition in September. To help support families during this period, the LA is offering access to a range of professionals who can provide advice and guidance.

Please see the link below for more information. If you have any questions or need further support, don't hesitate to contact the SEND Department.

Drama

Drama Club is not running this week due to Y12 production commitments.

The L6 drama cohort thoroughly impressed audiences in their two-night run of the play Land of Our Fathers. This highly professional production moved audiences to tears, and it was wonderful to have audiences full of family members, friends, students, staff and past 6th formers. Mrs Brett is incredibly proud of these young men.

Art Department

You can follow us on Instagram @art_mosslands to see some fabulous examples of the work produced by our students.

Reporting an Absence

Parents must telephone the school attendance line (0151 638 8131, option 1) on the first day of absence before 8.45am and on each subsequent day of absence. Alternatively, you can email attendance@mosslands.wirral.sch.uk. Please do not use the admin@mosslands email or the contact school option on the My Child at School app as these do not go directly to attendance, and you may still get a truancy call. It is our duty to keep your child safe, so if you do not inform us, you will receive a truancy call. You will receive 6 further calls until you respond.  The number which will display as an incoming call is a Sheffield number, 0114 303 4042.

Please be advised that if a student is absent from school for three consecutive days, a member of staff will carry out a home visit to check that everything is okay even if a phone call has already been received from a parent or carer.

This is part of our commitment to safeguarding and ensuring the wellbeing of all our students. We appreciate your understanding and support in this matter.

Medication in School

If you have any questions or concerns regarding medication in school, please contact the SEND Department. Students should not bring medication into school and any medication should be registered at reception. If your child is diagnosed as being asthmatic, following on from medical guidelines, please ensure they have an inhaler on then at all times and that we hold a spare within school. Many thanks.
