Cluster School Rugby Finals

Two of the Mosslands cluster of primary schools qualified for the Park Partnership tag rugby finals on Wednesday 20th October 2010

Two of the Mosslands cluster of primary schools qualified for the Park Partnership tag rugby finals on Wednesday 20th October 2010, played at Birkenhead Park Rugby Club.

Somerville Primary School performed admirably on the day; despite their relative lack of practice they showed some excellent skills and worked hard through all their matches. Somerville eventually finished fifth out of thirty schools that originally entered feeder competitions. Somerville player of the tournament was awarded to Miriam.

New Brighton Primary School excelled all morning. Wins against Somerville and Our Lady’s and draws against Redcourt and St Peters Catholic Primary were enough to see them gain a place in the final. An exciting match featuring some top quality rugby was narrowly lost to Redcourt by 7 tries to 5. The narrow scoreline in both games against Redcourt was an accurate reflection of how similar the two teams were, in the end a couple of small mistakes were the difference between winning and second place. New Brighton player of the tournament was awarded to Finney.

Congratulations to all who took part. The next Mosslands Cluster competition will be the Year 3/4 football to take place in the new Mosslands sports hall on Wednesday 17th November.
