Outstanding Student Services

Mr. Khalique reports on an outstanding term for the Student Services Team

The Student Services Team brings together the expertise of the school's Special Needs Department and Pupil Support Unit. It has been a long term but at the same time immensely rewarding for all the staff working in the Student Services Team. Here are just some of the highlights from this term.

The School's Gifted and Talented and Aim Higher Co-ordinator, Mr Taylor, has provided a range of unique, stimulating and engaging learning activities beyond the confines of the classroom working with providers such as John Moores University and MAESTRO for many of our students this term.

The team of Senior Learning Mentors have also delivered manifold programmes of support: a particular focus has been on the Extra Mile Projects which aim to equip our GCSE students with the right attitudes, skills and knowledge to flourish in their studies. Also the Foundation Learning Tier has been a huge success for all the students and staff involved, and I would particularly like to thank Mrs Denheyer, Senior Learning Mentor; Pam Jones, 14-19 Curriculum Co-ordinator and Lesley Cubbin, Student Services Administrator for getting this fantastic learning experience up and running for our boys in Year 10. Thanks also to the Year 10 Team!

The Special Needs Department has run its first, and highly successful Parent Drop-in session this term - superbly organised by Mrs Carruthers, SEN Manager, and Ms Audley, Lead Teacher for SEN. Watch this space as we plan more of these events to showcase the excellent work of our boys and the services we provide to help them blossom - we really do believe in engaging all parents and carers to help support the education of all our pupils.

On behalf of the Student Services Team I would like to wish you all a merry Christmas and happy New Year.

K Khalique
