If you are currently a year 11 pupil and you live within the Merseyside area, the Merseyside Police Volunteer Cadet Scheme may be of interest to you.
 

What could I do as a Volunteer Cadet?

Through a structured 2-year training programme in partnership with Local Colleges you will:

• Become a uniformed member of the Extended Police Family
• Attend weekly evening term time sessions to acquire desk based skills in Leadership, Drug Awareness, Diversity, Problem Solving, Law and Order and spend time in the gym to improve your fitness
• Be given an opportunity to assist Merseyside Police Officers in non-confrontational policing
• Have the opportunity to achieve a nationally recognised level 2 qualification

A day in the life of a Volunteer Cadet

"Hello, my name is Sean Harrison and I am a Police Volunteer Cadet with Merseyside Police based in the St Helens area. I am in my final year of Cadets and currently in the process of joining the Merseyside Police Special Constabulary and hopefully starting university in September to study the Police and Criminal Investigation degree. I currently volunteer one evening shift each week on the General Enquiry Office at St Helens Police Station. The cadet scheme is a two-year process in which you learn all of the skills and qualities needed to subsequently join the Police. The scheme allows you to gain uniformed experience at a very low level; mostly at community events, attending local ward meetings and also offering advice to the general public with neighbourhood officers and PCS&TO’s" 

"Being a Cadet has enabled me to gain valuable experience that I could not get from anywhere else. It has taught me respect; matured me greatly; and has also enabled me to understand other people’s lives and the problems that they face. My ambition has always been to become a Police Officer and I hope to fulfil that very soon, whether it is as a Special or a Regular Constable for Merseyside Police." 

How do I apply?

No formal qualifications are required to apply, however places are limited.

The recruitment lines will be open during the first 2 weeks in March. There may be a requirement for you to be interviewed to secure your place. The scheme will start September 2012 For further information please contact your local Extended Police Family coordinator. Details are shown below:
