Wirral Multi-Skills Academy

Students develop their talent for sport as part of the Wirral Multi-Skills Academy

While most of us spent February half term relaxing three year 7 pupils from Mosslands spent most of the week developing their talent for sport as part of the Wirral Multi-Skills Academy at Bebington Sports College.

Michael Manser; Patrik Rutter and William Richards were identified by the PE department at Mosslands as being gifted and following their nominations were selected amongst the 70 most talented pupils across Wirral to attend the academy. With over 400 pupils being nominated from schools right across the area being selected represented a massive achievement.

Organised by the School Sports Partnership and supported by the Youth Sports Trust and Department for Education and Skills the aim of the academy was to develop generic physical skills which will lead to improved athletic and sporting performance. The carefully designed programme enabled all pupils attending to develop their agility; coordination; balance; running; jumping and turning skills all of which are applicable to various sporting activities. The final day allowed attendees to select a sport which they have a particular interest in and experience high quality, sport specific coaching in that activity delivered by local clubs.

Throughout the four days the three Mosslands boys acquitted themselves well. We hope that this is just the very start of ongoing sporting success for the three of them.
