Building the robot

On Tuesday 1st October Callum, Brendon and Curtis of Year 9, visited Birkenhead High School Academy to engage in a STEM robotics challenge against other schools from across Merseyside.

The event was organised with Mersey STEM, who have the aim of ensuring that all young people, schools and colleges in our area have easy access to STEM (Science Technology Engineering and Maths) curriculum enhancement and enrichment activities.

Our pupils said of the event..

“Our day at the STEM Robotics Challenge surprised us a lot, we all had fun! It was exciting and challenging which I liked and it was such a relief when our robot “Henry” worked. Everyone had to get involved which made it better, as you didn’t just get one person doing all the building and controlling, all the team had a part to play.  It took about two hours to completely build our robot using only the pieces provided but it was well worth it.   After the build, we played a robotic game of tennis-basketball and although we didn’t win it was still great fun.”
