On Wednesday 25th June Charlie McRory, Harri Bower and Ben Karahous visited Egremont Primary school with staff from the University of Liverpool to deliver an aspiration raising programme. After undertaking a training programme at the university the Mosslands pupils were able to act as role models and offer guidance and support to primary school pupils. As they have made the transition from primary to secondary school, they were best placed to answer questions that the primary pupils had about taking their next step. By sharing their experiences they were able to lessen any concerns the pupils may have had.

The University of Liverpool has developed an innovative teaching pack to inform primary children in Years 5 and 6 about the educational opportunities available to them. The programme uses the very successful Professor Fluffy & Friends characters to raise awareness of the impact of education on improving career and life opportunities, and fosters an understanding of the concept of choice.

The University of Liverpool Graduate staff assisted by the Mosslands ambassadors covered the following areas during their visit:-

  • Introducing the vocabulary of further and higher education
  • Raising awareness of the concept of an educational learning journey i.e. nursery - primary - secondary - post 16 - higher education
  • Raising the awareness that education improves career and life chances understanding the concept of choice.
