Friday 27^th June 2014 was Mosslands Table Cricket Team’s debut appearance at Lords, the home of cricket, for The Lord’s Taverners National Table Cricket Finals.

This sport has given young disabled people the opportunity to play table cricket at a competitive level.  All finalists had previously won their regional tournaments to claim their right to compete at Lords.  This tournament is organised by Lord’s Taverners who promote cricket and disability sports worldwide with over 8,000 youngsters taking part in table cricket over the last 15 years.

The 10 teams competing this year were from all regions of the UK. Each team played 4 games of 6 overs to win through to the final battle to become Champions.  The Mosslands School were unluckily drawn in the same group as last year’s winners Victoria Sports College who narrowly led Mosslands in the group stages.  The team fought valiantly and ultimately gained sixth place overall. 

The Mosslands School were represented by Sam Lloyd (Captain), Dan Lloyd, Tom Lloyd, Matty Crofts, Michael Walls, George Campbell and Sean Kelly.   All seven boys showed true sportsmanship, team spirit and determination proving themselves to be a credit to the school.  The boys felt so privileged and honoured to be at Lords, to take part in the event and to meet the “God of Cricket”, Sachin Tedulkar.  The team and staff would like to thank Lords and Lord’s Taveners for organising this exceptional competition.  

We would also like to thank West Wallasey Van Hire, the PTA and Embrace who enabled the boys to take part in this exciting opportunity. Claire Cottrell, Margaret Oldfield and Mike Lam who organised the trip said the boy’s outstanding enthusiasm, effort and overall attitude made the trip even more enjoyable.

The schools charity Embrace, which promotes inclusive sport, enables the boys to be able to participate in different sporting competitions and meets the pupils’ individual needs. Michael Walls stated that “Embrace creates memories, memories are Embrace”.
