Afritwin Visit 2015

Mosslands has been working with the British Council for a number of years to promote the development of Global Citizenship in school.

A group of our boys have been working tirelessly for 3 years to raise money to fund links with our twin school, Simon’s Town High School, near Cape Town, South Africa. We have had a number of staff exchanges but, during the February half term holidays, this ‘Afritwin’ group finally got the chance to visit the school and find out what life in South Africa is really like. The hospitality of our hosts was without equal and the students have developed what we hope will be lasting friendships with many delightful South African learners. They spent time in Assemblies, observing lessons and visited Robben Island as well as Table Mountain together. The school also organised a fabulous Valentine’s Day meal and a Braai and Poike (BBQ+stew).

The Afritwin team has also raised a considerable sum of money to enable their new South African friends to visit England and continue to work hard in their fundraising efforts. Thanks to all boys who sent in redundant football kits. The children in South Africa are massive fans of English football and were delighted with their gifts.

Can we please ask parents to continue to dig out old kits and send them into school so that we can pass them on? We also continue to collect any clean, used clothing, the proceeds from the sale of which go towards the Afritwin fundraising efforts.
