Nathan Jones took on Shaun Naylor in an all Grenfell final for the title of Year 11 Fencing Champion

Fecing competitionThursday 26th January saw another tense final for a fencing competition with Nathan Jones taking on Shaun Naylor in an all Grenfell final for the title of year eleven fencing champion. Nathan had won through the pools sessions in first place and earned himself a by into the semi finals where he had seen off Will Bruce in a really good match  that had started well for Nathan and showed some of his great ability. Shaun had had a hard fought match against Jake Mills but had won through convincingly to take his place in the final.

Shaun took the lead with a great stop hit but by the end of the first period found himself 5-2 down. Nathan extended his lead in the second period with a series of beat attacks that Shaun struggled to find an answer for. In the final period Nathan was 10-4 up. Shaun launched a comeback that Lazarus would have been proud of and drew the match level at 14 all. Two double hits followed and it looked as though the pressure may get to Nathan but he pulled off a great hit to arm that secured him the victory. Great fencing from all the competitors.
