Half Marathon Heroes

Half Marathon Heroes, Mr Johnson, Mr Le-Normand, Mr Bird & Mr Bird raise money for our House charities

On Sunday 23rd March, a group of staff from the school ran the Liverpool Half Marathon to raise money for the three Mosslands House charities.  Mr Le-Normand and Mr Bird represented the Faraday house charity, Guide Dogs for the Blind.  Mr Johnson ran for the Ruskin House charity, Claire House.  Unfortunately there were no members of Grenfell staff at the school at the peak of physical fitness required to tackle a half-marathon, but fortunately, Mr Bird’s son, Peter, donned the red t-shirt of Grenfell and represented Help for Heroes.

The morning began rather cold and drizzly, but by the time the race began at 9:00am, the conditions for running were good.  The race wound its way through the city centre, passing through three parks before a gruelling final 4-mile stretch along the banks of the Mersey, directly into the wind.  There were over 8000 competitors and all the Mosslands participants managed to complete the race in less than 2 hours.  Mr Bird finished in 1 hour, 37 minutes, Mr Le-Normand finished in 1 hour 46 minutes and Mr Johnson finished in 1 hour and 52 minutes.
However, significant credit must go to Peter Bird who finished in 67th position in an amazing time of 1 hour 20 minutes.

The amount of money that has been raised so far to be shared equally between the three charities is £X. If anyone would still like to donate, please hand your money into one of the house offices.
