About the course

1 A-level equivalent holding UCAS points

1 year course (with option to do Diploma in second year)

5 units in total (3 internally assessed and 2 exams)


What does this qualification cover? (E= Exam/Externally Assessed, I= Internally Assessed).

Unit 1 - Body systems and the effects of physical activity (E), Unit 2 - Sports coaching and activity leadership (I), Unit 3 - Sports organisation and development (E), Unit 5 - Performance analysis in sport and exercise (I), Unit 18 - Practical skills in sport and physical activities (I).


How will it be assessed?

External Assessment - These units are timetabled examinations. OCR set the dates. Achievement at unit level is graded as Near-Pass, Pass, Merit or Distinction based on reaching the required grade boundary marks for each externally assessed unit.

Internal Assessment - Your tutor will grade your work/evidence for each unit. Work/evidence can come from a number of sources such as assignments, tasks or work-based activities (through projects or real work), observation/recording of practices, responses to questions and witness statements.


What is expected of you?

  • Respect: Staff, classmates, equipment, office/classroom
  • Good attitude: In everything you do - studies, football training, workouts
  • Punctuality: Be on time to all sessions
  • Listen: If someone is talking (staff or classmate), respect them and listen
  • Be prepared: Equipment, kit, lunch

Level 2 in Fitness Instructing/Level 3 Personal Training Qualification


Entry requirements:

An interest in sport

Grade 1-9 in Maths and English with obligation to re-sit if grade 1-3 is obtained
