Our Curriculum

Curriculum

The school operates a 2-week cycle of 60 x 50-minute lessons, plus registration time to start and end the day.

PSHE is delivered on a rolling delivery model.

During Year 9, all students choose their options for KS4, which they will then follow in Years 10 and 11.

Curriculum Overview

KEY STAGE 3

In years 7, 8 and 9, students follow the KS3 national curriculum, as detailed in the table below.

In Keystage 3, Drama is delivered on a carousel with Art.

In Year 7 and Year 8, students are taught in mixed ability bands - X and Y

In Year 9, students are taught in two mixed ability bands, X and Y, with an additional lower prior attainment W band. 

The existence of a smaller band parallel to the other 2 main bands will facilitate better adaption for those students and greater equity.

KEY STAGE 4

All students study English Language, English Literature, Maths, Science (which counts as 2 GCSEs or 3 GCSEs if you take Separate Sciences). Employability Skills, PE and RE. 

Students choose 4 options from a range of GCSE and Vocational courses.

Each option is delivered over 6 lessons in a cycle.

OPTION CHOICES

STUDENTS MUST CHOOSE AT LEAST ONE FROM:
French, Spanish, Geography, History, Computer Science, Separate Sciences.

ALSO:
Business Studies, Art, Drama, Music, Construction, Design Technology, Sport Science, Sport Studies, ICT and Food Technology.

 

KEY STAGE 5

At KS5 we offer a range of A-level and vocational subjects, providing tailored pathways for progression based on prior attainment and individual needs.
