A Message from Mr Whiteley

Thanks to everybody for a really successful start to the year.  Students have worked extremely hard and school is a really productive and purposeful place.  I would like to thank all parents and carers for their help and support in making this happen.

It has been a busy few weeks with students enjoying theatre trips, a trip to Port Sunlight and of course the amazing Iceland trip last month.

School closes on Friday at 3.20pm and we look forward to seeing your children back in school on Monday 3rd November at the normal time. Y11 are on study leave and are due in each day at 10.10am for their exams.

I wish you all a safe and happy break.

Litter Picking

Our Y13 environmental science students have started a litter picking group, after school each Monday. Their first outing was around the local area. We hope you can see the difference they are making!

Trips

An exciting geography trip to Sicily in October 2026 was launched this week to boys currently in years 8, 9 and 12. The deposit is available to pay in the trips section of MCAS.

The final balance of £580 for the Paris 2026 trip is now available on MCAS. A second deposit of £150 must be paid by 9th December, with a further £150 due in February. The full balance must be paid by the end of April. Parents may make as many instalment payments as they wish as long as the schedule is adhered to.

We Are Wirral

Four of our student council/Debate Mate members spoke with a variety of public sector workers including senior officials of the council at the We Are Wirral Children's Services event. Their voices were heard, new information learnt, and connections made.

Drama

Year 10, 11 and Sixth Form drama students went to the Liverpool Playhouse last week to see Frantic Assembly's Lost Atoms. This was an intense, emotionally driven physical theatre performance which provided the students with a great live theatre experience which will support course content.

Drama Club will continue on Monday 3rd November 3:30 - 4:15 in Mrs Brett's drama studio. New faces always welcome!

Exciting News!

We have booked tickets to see The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night Time for November 2026 at the Liverpool Empire. Details to follow after half term!

Library

Our Book of the Week is Yvette Fielding's incredibly spooky The Ripper of Whitechapel that tells the story of trainee ghost hunters Eve, Clovis and Tom who are invited to investigate a local school which is haunted by two young children. Could it be that the ghost children are victims of Jack the Ripper? And is the evil Ripper of Whitechapel about to unleash a new campaign of terror from beyond the grave?

Are you ready to get spooked this Halloween? There is no better way than with a good horror story and we have plenty available in the library now!

Reporting an Absence

Parents must telephone the school attendance line (0151 638 8131, option 1) on the first day of absence before 8.45am and on each subsequent day of absence. Alternatively, you can email attendance@mosslands.wirral.sch.uk. Please do not use the admin@mosslands email or the contact school option on the My Child at School app as these do not go directly to attendance, and you may still get a truancy call. It is our duty to keep your child safe, so if you do not inform us, you will receive a truancy call. You will receive 6 further calls until you respond.  The number which will display as an incoming call is a Sheffield number, 0114 303 4042.

If a student arrives at school after 9:15 AM, when the registers officially close, their late arrival is recorded as a U code. This code means the child is present on site, but too late to receive a present mark — and as such, it is recorded as an unauthorised absence.

Please be aware that repeated U codes can lead to further action, as they affect your child’s overall attendance percentage and may be subject to monitoring.

We understand that occasional lateness can happen for a variety of reasons. If you are experiencing difficulties that are impacting punctuality, please don’t hesitate to contact us so we can work together to support you.

Thank you for your understanding and continued support in ensuring your child attends school on time every day.

Please be advised that if a student is absent from school for three consecutive days, a member of staff will carry out a home visit to check that everything is okay even if a phone call has already been received from a parent or carer.

This is part of our commitment to safeguarding and ensuring the wellbeing of all our students. We appreciate your understanding and support in this matter.

Medication in School

If you have any questions or concerns regarding medication in school, please contact the SEND Department. Students should not bring medication into school and any medication should be registered at reception. If your child is diagnosed as being asthmatic, following on from medical guidelines, please ensure they have an inhaler on them at all times and that we hold a spare within school. Many thanks.
