A reminder that school is closed tomorrow to all students.

On Thursday next week, we will be serving Christmas lunch in the canteen and students are allowed to wear a Christmas jumper in addition to their normal school uniform in exchange for a charity donation of £1.

On the last day of term, Friday 19th December, students will be allowed to wear their own clothes and free snacks will be available in the canteen at morning break. School will finish at 12.50pm.

Duke of Edinburgh's Bronze Award – Information Evening

We are pleased to announce an optional information evening for the Duke of Edinburgh's (DofE) Bronze Award. This session will take place on Wednesday 17th December, from 5:30–6:00pm and is aimed at parents/carers of Y9 and 10 pupils who are interested in taking part in the Bronze Award this year.

Please note, attendance is not mandatory for either students or parents/carers. The purpose of the evening is simply to provide an opportunity to:

  • Ask any questions you may have about the programme

  • Receive key information regarding payments, scheduling, and next steps

  • Understand what the commitment involves for participants

All essential details will also be shared with students in a letter before the Christmas break, so you won’t miss out if you are unable to attend.

We look forward to supporting our young people as they embark on this exciting and rewarding challenge!

Improved Attenders

This week, we have celebrated students who have made a great improvement with their attendance. Students in years 7 to 9 were invited to breakfast with Mr Whiteley, while boys in years 10 to 11 were invited to cake and hot chocolate with him. We are really proud of these boys and wanted to celebrate with them.

Drama Club

On Monday 8th December, the club will run until 4:30 as we are doing a special effects for film/performance session.

Y10 Special Effects Workshop

Mrs Brett called upon the expertise of Miss Rowe in DT, who has a degree in special effects for film & TV, to do a careers workshop with the Y10 drama students. Pupils were taught how to create bruises, burns and cuts. They then used these injuries in a scripted performance.

Y9 Music Assembly

On Wednesday, our Y9 students had the pleasure of a visit from Future Yard CEO and ex-Mosslands student, Craig Pennington. He spoke in depth of his journey in music through Mosslands and how this led to him running various music venues until he created the Future Yard venue in Birkenhead. He also talked about opportunities for the boys to take part in Saturday morning workshops around music composition and sound engineering and how this can lead to careers in the creative industry. He is also keen to work with us to promote live music performance. Along with him, he brought rising star Michael Aldag, who has over 1 million subscribers on TikTok, to talk about his musical journey through school, to becoming a street busker in Liverpool and eventually being lucky enough to be picked up by a record label. He now tours the globe promoting his own music and supporting other global artists. We were lucky enough to hear him perform and were also inspired by his journey.

Charity Fundraising

We raised £111.80 for the NSPCC with our most recent cake sale. Our next one is on Tuesday 9th December. Cookies will be on sale at £1 each in aid of Wirral Ark.

Safe Parking and Safe Driving: A Reminder for All Families

Recently, we have seen several vehicles stopping or parking in areas where it is not permitted or safe. While the school run can be busy, this creates serious safety risks for pupils, families, and local residents. It also places drivers at risk of fines and penalties.

To help keep everyone safe - and to ensure we all comply with UK road law — please follow the guidance below:

Legal Requirements (UK)

· No stopping on school “KEEP CLEAR” zig-zag markings enforced under the Traffic Signs Regulations and General Directions (TSRGD). Stopping here can result in a penalty charge.

· No parking on yellow lines during restricted hours. Yellow line restrictions are enforceable under local Traffic Regulation Orders. Double yellow lines apply at all times unless signs indicate otherwise.

· No pavement parking under The Highway Code Rule 244, pavement parking is illegal in London and may be enforced by local authorities elsewhere. It can obstruct pedestrians, wheelchair users, and prams.

· Do not obstruct driveways, dropped kerbs, or pedestrian crossings. This is prohibited under the Road Traffic Act 1988 and Highway Code Rules 242–243. Obstruction can lead to fines or the vehicle being moved.

· Do not stop in the road or double-park The Highway Code Rule 243 prohibits stopping where it causes danger or unnecessary obstruction.

Speed Limits – Legal Reminder

· The area surrounding the school is subject to a mandatory speed limit (usually 20mph unless otherwise indicated).

· Under the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 and Highway Code Rules 124–125, exceeding the speed limit is a criminal offence.

· Speeding near a school significantly increases risk to children and can result in prosecution, penalty points, or disqualification.

· The standard penalty for a speeding offence can be a £100 fixed-penalty fine and 3 penalty points on your driving licence.

Our Shared Goal

Please remember to:

· Use legal, designated parking spaces only.

· Keep all crossings, pavements, and driveways clear.

· Drive slowly and stay alert near school gates and the surrounding roads.

· Allow extra time in the mornings to avoid rushed, unsafe driving or parking.

Please also be aware that pupils enter and leave the school site from several different entrances and exits. Children may appear suddenly from pathways, gates, and side access points, and not always from the main entrance. For this reason, it is essential that vehicles are parked safely, crossings are left clear, and speed limits are strictly followed at all times.

Your cooperation keeps our children safe and supports the wellbeing of our whole school community.

Art Department

You can follow us on Instagram @art_mosslands to see some fabulous examples of the work produced by our students.

Reporting an Absence

Parents must telephone the school attendance line (0151 638 8131, option 1) on the first day of absence before 8.45am and on each subsequent day of absence. Alternatively, you can email attendance@mosslands.wirral.sch.uk. Please do not use the admin@mosslands email or the contact school option on the My Child at School app as these do not go directly to attendance, and you may still get a truancy call. It is our duty to keep your child safe, so if you do not inform us, you will receive a truancy call. You will receive 6 further calls until you respond.  The number which will display as an incoming call is a Sheffield number, 0114 303 4042.

If a student arrives at school after 9:15 AM, when the registers officially close, their late arrival is recorded as a U code. This code means the child is present on site, but too late to receive a present mark — and as such, it is recorded as an unauthorised absence.

Please be aware that repeated U codes can lead to further action, as they affect your child’s overall attendance percentage and may be subject to monitoring.

We understand that occasional lateness can happen for a variety of reasons. If you are experiencing difficulties that are impacting punctuality, please don’t hesitate to contact us so we can work together to support you.

Thank you for your understanding and continued support in ensuring your child attends school on time every day.

Please be advised that if a student is absent from school for two unauthorised consecutive days then a member of the pastoral team will contact home via telephone and after three unauthorised consecutive days, a member of staff will carry out a home visit to check that everything is okay, even if a phone call has already been received from a parent or carer.

This is part of our commitment to safeguarding and ensuring the wellbeing of all our students. We appreciate your understanding and support in this matter.

Medication in School

If you have any questions or concerns regarding medication in school, please contact the SEND Department. Students should not bring medication into school and any medication should be registered at reception. If your child is diagnosed as being asthmatic, following on from medical guidelines, please ensure they have an inhaler on them at all times and that we hold a spare within school. Many thanks.
