Preparation work for the new build is now almost complete and, as you will have noticed, there is increased traffic on Mosslands Drive.  To avoid unnecessary congestion, can I please ask that you avoid Mosslands Drive unless absolutely essential.  If you drop off or pick your son up, it would be very helpful to arrange this slightly further away from the school site, either towards Wallasey Village or Leasowe Road. If it is essential for you to visit the school, please park considerately, avoiding the area directly adjacent to the school and away from our neighbours' houses.

At some point next week, the new staff car park will open to the rear of the junior yard.  To enable pupils to safely access the site, a gate halfway down School Lane will become the main pupil entrance in the morning.  Late arrivals will use the entrance by reception as usual.  For clarity, the location of the new pupil entrance is marked on the map below.

Y10 Parents' Evening

Please ensure you have made appointments for the parents' evening for Y10 on Thursday 5th February.

Tetanus, Diphtheria & Polio (Td/IPV) and Meningitis ACWY Vaccinations for Year 9 Pupils

On Wednesday 11th February,  the immunisation team will be in school to vaccinate pupils in Y9 for their Tetanus, Diphtheria & Polio (Td/IPV) – also known as the 3-in-1 teenage booster and Meningitis ACWY.  Any outstanding Y10 and 11 pupils will also be vaccinated.

A letter was sent out to all Y9 parents asking for consent and providing other key information about the vaccine. Please contact us if you need another copy of the letter.

Pupils who are being vaccinated on the day should wear a short-sleeved shirt.

Drama Club

Due to Year 13 practical exam preparation, Drama Club is cancelled on Monday 2nd February. Apologies to regular attenders. Looking forward to seeing you all back on Monday 9th February.

Debate Mate

Our Debate Mate team took part in the first round of debating this week, coming up against some of the most critical debating minds in the area.

Well done to all involved: Jack Atherton, Isaac Markham, Blake King, Jaxson Clarke, Joe Niccolls, Oliver Kilty, Adam Mason, Logan Edwards-Martland, Noah Lloyd and Kai Fitzpatrick.

Library

The author, Tom Palmer, will be visiting our school on Thursday 12th February and working with a selection of Year 7 and 8 students who have read his historical novel Resist as part of our Tutor Read Aloud program or have shown dedication to reading and the library so far this year. All students are welcome to come and meet Tom during breaktime in the library on this day. Here are some of the historical books that Tom Palmer has written.

You can follow us on Instagram @art_mosslands to see some fabulous examples of the work produced by our students.

Reporting an Absence

Parents must telephone the school attendance line (0151 638 8131, option 1) on the first day of absence before 8.45am and on each subsequent day of absence. Alternatively, you can email attendance@mosslands.wirral.sch.uk. Please do not use the admin@mosslands email or the contact school option on the My Child at School app as these do not go directly to attendance, and you may still get a truancy call. It is our duty to keep your child safe, so if you do not inform us, you will receive a truancy call. You will receive 6 further calls until you respond.  The number which will display as an incoming call is a Sheffield number, 0114 303 4042.

If a student arrives at school after 9:15 AM, when the registers officially close, their late arrival is recorded as a U code. This code means the child is present on site, but too late to receive a present mark — and as such, it is recorded as an unauthorised absence.

Please be aware that repeated U codes can lead to further action, as they affect your child’s overall attendance percentage and may be subject to monitoring.

We understand that occasional lateness can happen for a variety of reasons. If you are experiencing difficulties that are impacting punctuality, please don’t hesitate to contact us so we can work together to support you.

Thank you for your understanding and continued support in ensuring your child attends school on time every day.

Please be advised that if a student is absent from school for two unauthorised consecutive days then a member of the pastoral team will contact home via telephone and after three unauthorised consecutive days, a member of staff will carry out a home visit to check that everything is okay, even if a phone call has already been received from a parent or carer.

This is part of our commitment to safeguarding and ensuring the wellbeing of all our students. We appreciate your understanding and support in this matter.

Medication in School

If you have any questions or concerns regarding medication in school, please contact the SEND Department. Students should not bring medication into school and any medication should be registered at reception. If your child is diagnosed as being asthmatic, following on from medical guidelines, please ensure they have an inhaler on them at all times and that we hold a spare within school. Many thanks.
