Important Notice

Next week is half-term and school will be closed to students unless they are attending Y11 revision sessions. In addition, the building will be completely closed on Monday 16th February whilst essential work is carried out on the electrical power systems. The school office and phone lines will not be available on this day.

If you need to contact us, please do so from Tuesday 17th February, when we will reopen at the usual time of 8:30am.

Thank you all for your patience during this muddy phase of the building work. After half-term, we are expecting the construction site to be fully enclosed and therefore less disruptive.

School closes on Friday at 3.20pm. Wishing everyone a restful half-term break, and we look forward to seeing everyone back in school on Monday 23rd February at the usual time.

Year 9 Parents' Evening & Options Event

Letters will be going home shortly with more information about this event, which is on Thursday after the half-term break.

STEM Event

On Monday 23rd February, our Y7 and 8 pupils will experience Material World: Engineering the Future, a live STEM performance that brings science to life while opening their eyes to exciting careers in engineering, technology and aerospace.

Y11 Hospitality & Catering Practical Exams

These have been an outstanding success this week and a real credit to the students involved. The quality of the final dishes produced was impressive across the board, demonstrating strong technical skills, creativity and attention to detail.

Students approached the exam with confidence and professionalism, working calmly and methodically under pressure. Their ability to manage their time effectively was outstanding, culminating in 2 dishes served hot at the same time.

The outcomes reflected a clear understanding of ingredients, cooking methods, safe working practices, and presentation skills. Many students went beyond expectations, producing dishes that were well-balanced, thoughtfully presented, and cooked with precision.

Well done to all concerned!

PE News

The Y10 sports controlled assessment has been rescheduled to Monday 23rd March.

An instalment payment for New York was due on 1st February.

Berlin Trip

This has to be paid in full by mid-April. Parents are able  to make as many instalment payments as they need to pay the final balance.

Library

The author, Tom Palmer, will be visiting our school tomorrow and working with a selection of Y7 and 8 students who have read his historical novel Resist as part of our Tutor Read Aloud program or have shown dedication to reading and the library so far this year. All students are welcome to come and meet Tom during break time in the library. Here are some of the historical books that Tom Palmer has written.

World Book Day takes place on Thursday 5th March and we will have lots of exciting events for our students throughout the day. World Book Day books will be in all bookshops and large supermarkets from this weekend and students can use a £1 World Book Day token to pay for the World Book Day book.  Y7 and 8 will have their token by Friday; students in other years can pop to Mrs Barton for a token after half-term.

Reporting an Absence

Parents must telephone the school attendance line (0151 638 8131, option 1) on the first day of absence before 8.45am and on each subsequent day of absence. Alternatively, you can email attendance@mosslands.wirral.sch.uk. Please do not use the admin@mosslands email or the contact school option on the My Child at School app as these do not go directly to attendance, and you may still get a truancy call. It is our duty to keep your child safe, so if you do not inform us, you will receive a truancy call. You will receive 6 further calls until you respond.  The number which will display as an incoming call is a Sheffield number, 0114 303 4042.

If a student arrives at school after 9:15 AM, when the registers officially close, their late arrival is recorded as a U code. This code means the child is present on site, but too late to receive a present mark — and as such, it is recorded as an unauthorised absence.

Please be aware that repeated U codes can lead to further action, as they affect your child’s overall attendance percentage and may be subject to monitoring.

We understand that occasional lateness can happen for a variety of reasons. If you are experiencing difficulties that are impacting punctuality, please don’t hesitate to contact us so we can work together to support you.

Thank you for your understanding and continued support in ensuring your child attends school on time every day.

Please be advised that if a student is absent from school for two unauthorised consecutive days then a member of the pastoral team will contact home via telephone and after three unauthorised consecutive days, a member of staff will carry out a home visit to check that everything is okay, even if a phone call has already been received from a parent or carer.

This is part of our commitment to safeguarding and ensuring the wellbeing of all our students. We appreciate your understanding and support in this matter.

Medication in School

If you have any questions or concerns regarding medication in school, please contact the SEND Department. Students should not bring medication into school and any medication should be registered at reception. If your child is diagnosed as being asthmatic, following on from medical guidelines, please ensure they have an inhaler on them at all times and that we hold a spare within school. Many thanks.
