A Message from Mr Whiteley

Thank you for your continuing support in what is another busy term.  I would like to congratulate our Y11 students for the manner in which they have conducted themselves this week.  We understand that it is a challenging year, but practising exams in the manner in which we have done has proved very successful for the last few years, and we look forward to using the info we get from these exams in the last push before the final exams in the summer.

For Y10, I would like to wish them the very best for the forthcoming work experience fortnight.  This is a really valuable insight into the world of work.  For some, this may well be an opportunity to take the first step into employment.  For others, this may clarify in their minds jobs that they definitely do not wish to pursue. Both of these are valuable learning experiences.

Parents will be aware of the rapid progress on the building site that will become our new school.  As you will know, we are doing everything in our power to minimise the impact of the building work on the operation of the school, and although we are a little short on space currently, things are progressing smoothly.  With this in mind, we will be holding a community meeting to update all of our parents and neighbours on the progress of the building and the impact it is having on our community on Tuesday 17th March 5-6pm.  This is an opportunity to give you an overview of the work that is happening and a chance for you to ask questions of ourselves, the LA and our contractors.

I would like to bring to your notice the upcoming annual Senior Citizens Dinner, which we run in conjunction with the Wallasey Rotary Club, on Wednesday 18th March 6-9pm.  This involves approximately 100 senior citizens from local care and nursing homes, coming into school for an evening of music and food, hosted by our students.  Currently, we are seeking to raise funds for this event and any support you can give would be greatly appreciated.

Year 8 Parents' Evening

Parents should have received an email inviting them to attend parents' evening on Thursday next week.

Y10 Work Experience

There is a very small group of Y10 students who are not on work experience next week. These students should attend school as normal and bring their PE kit on Tuesday.

TRACK Enrichment Day

On Thursday 12th March, we will hold our second TRACK Enrichment Day (TED 2). This day is designed to provide meaningful, age-appropriate experiences that complement our academic curriculum and further develop students’ character, confidence and future readiness.

Each year group will take part in a carefully planned programme:

  • Year 7: History & Geography Challenge Day
  • Year 8: University of Chester visit
  • Year 9: House Challenge Day, including charity events supporting Diabetes UK
  • Year 10: Work experience
  • Year 11: English, maths and science exam readiness sessions
  • Sixth Form: Financial literacy workshops (Year 12) and directed independent study (Year 13)

Library

World Book Day took place today and included lots of exciting events for our students throughout the day. Including The Trail of Lost Books, a reward trip for our top borrowers, a paired reading celebration and The Big World Book Day Quiz. A huge well done to all the students and staff involved. World Book Day books are in all bookshops and large supermarkets and students can use a £1 World Book Day token to pay for the World Book Day book.  Y7 and 8 have been given their token already, students in other years can pop to Mrs Barton for a token. Students have until 15th March to get their book.

The Readathon takes place tomorrow and our dedicated readers will be reading for an entire day to raise money for Read for Good, a charity that provides books and storytellers to children in hospital. If you would like to sponsor our students, please use the link below. Thank you!

Reporting an Absence

Parents must telephone the school attendance line (0151 638 8131, option 1) on the first day of absence before 8.45am and on each subsequent day of absence. Alternatively, you can email attendance@mosslands.wirral.sch.uk. Please do not use the admin@mosslands email or the contact school option on the My Child at School app as these do not go directly to attendance, and you may still get a truancy call. It is our duty to keep your child safe, so if you do not inform us, you will receive a truancy call. You will receive 6 further calls until you respond.  The number which will display as an incoming call is a Sheffield number, 0114 303 4042.

If a student arrives at school after 9:15 AM, when the registers officially close, their late arrival is recorded as a U code. This code means the child is present on site, but too late to receive a present mark — and as such, it is recorded as an unauthorised absence.

Please be aware that repeated U codes can lead to further action, as they affect your child’s overall attendance percentage and may be subject to monitoring.

We understand that occasional lateness can happen for a variety of reasons. If you are experiencing difficulties that are impacting punctuality, please don’t hesitate to contact us so we can work together to support you.

Thank you for your understanding and continued support in ensuring your child attends school on time every day.

Please be advised that if a student is absent from school for two unauthorised consecutive days then a member of the pastoral team will contact home via telephone and after three unauthorised consecutive days, a member of staff will carry out a home visit to check that everything is okay, even if a phone call has already been received from a parent or carer.

This is part of our commitment to safeguarding and ensuring the wellbeing of all our students. We appreciate your understanding and support in this matter.

Medication in School

If you have any questions or concerns regarding medication in school, please contact the SEND Department. Students should not bring medication into school and any medication should be registered at reception. If your child is diagnosed as being asthmatic, following on from medical guidelines, please ensure they have an inhaler on them at all times and that we hold a spare within school. Many thanks.
