Debate Mate

Our Debate Mate teams competed in the Urban Debate League round 2 on Tuesday. Our novice team, having only debated a handful of times, performed really well and despite not winning their debates, they made Mr Gouldson immensely proud.

Our regular debaters performed outstandingly - quite the reputation they've built – as they won both of their debates.

Art Department

Paintings that were created during our recent Bob Ross Day have now been entered into Dot-Art Schools, an interschool competition which will culminate in a public exhibition of the winning artworks. Please follow this link to see their artwork displayed on the Dot-Art Schools website.

Careers Programme

Our Y10 are currently undertaking their 2-week work experience placement. If your workplace would be able to support future placements, please contact us using this form.

Mosslands School Careers Programme 2026-27 – Fill out form

Today, Y8 are visiting Chester University for their first encounter of higher education with us. This is an important visit exploring the options available to them post-18.

On Thursday 26th March, the Y10 Access All Areas group will be having their 2nd visit to Liverpool John Moores University. This visit will see them learn more about university life and the courses available. Letters and reminders have been sent to the students involved.

In recent weeks, years 10 and 11 have received a talk from Paul Martin at Wirral Met about post-16 courses available at Wirral Met and an introduction to T Levels.

Library

In celebration of British Science Week, our Book of the Week is the incredible Women in Science: 50 fearless Pioneers Who Changed the World by Rachel Ignotofsky, a book that celebrates the achievements of the intrepid women who have paved the way for the next generation of female engineers, biologists, mathematicians, doctors, physicists and many more. Available in the library now!

The Readathon took place on Friday and our dedicated readers sat and read for an entire day to raise money for Read for Good, a charity that provides books and storytellers to children in hospitals. The boys did a brilliant job and have so far raised over £500!

FIFA FC26 Tournament

This year's tournament is off to a strong start with lots of goals and the boys are enjoying the games immensely. The games are livestreamed and are available for all forms to watch during their personal development time in the morning.

With the World Cup happening in a few months, we have given each form a national team, based on the attendance of the form.  The better the attendance, the higher ranked national team.

So far we have seen the following results:

9R1's Croatia 1- 0 8F2's Italy

7R1's Mexico 3 - 0 7G2's Netherlands

9F2's Denmark 3 - 2 8G1's Germany

9R2's Scotland 4 - 0 7F1's Spain

7F2's England 4 - 0 7G1's Wales

9G1's Poland 4 - 0 8R2's Argentina

9G3's Finland 3 -1 8F1's Portugal

9F1's Northern Ireland 4 - 1 9G2's Saudi Arabia

11R2's Morocco 4-3 11F1's Ukraine

11G2's Romania 4 - 0 11F2's Ghana

We have one more Y11 game to play and then the Y10s will get involved after they have completed their work experience.

It is shaping up to be even better than last year!

The Study Process – Your AI study assistant

Students are increasingly using AI platforms (such as ChatGPT, Gemini, etc.) for homework, assessment, and revision, which puts them at risk of academic malpractice. Social media, especially TikTok, is full of videos about how not to get caught when using AI. However, learning is a process and requires effort. The Study Process was created to ensure that if students are going to use AI (which they will in ever-increasing numbers), the AI should at least support learning rather than replacing it. Built by our very own Mr Power from sixth form, it’s an AI study assistant designed with students' needs at its heart. Instead of giving finished answers, it guides students to explain, analyse, and evaluate their knowledge, aligned with the assessment framework they are studying, helping them build the skills associated with higher grades, all at their current level.

Students can use it for: revision and exam preparation, flashcards and study sheets, exam-style questions, essay and coursework planning and even includes access to study music.

Art Department

You can follow us on Instagram @art_mosslands to see some fabulous examples of the work produced by our students.

Reporting an Absence

Parents must telephone the school attendance line (0151 638 8131, option 1) on the first day of absence before 8.45am and on each subsequent day of absence. Alternatively, you can email attendance@mosslands.wirral.sch.uk. Please do not use the admin@mosslands email or the contact school option on the My Child at School app as these do not go directly to attendance, and you may still get a truancy call. It is our duty to keep your child safe, so if you do not inform us, you will receive a truancy call. You will receive 6 further calls until you respond.  The number which will display as an incoming call is a Sheffield number, 0114 303 4042.

If a student arrives at school after 9:15 AM, when the registers officially close, their late arrival is recorded as a U code. This code means the child is present on site, but too late to receive a present mark — and as such, it is recorded as an unauthorised absence.

Please be aware that repeated U codes can lead to further action, as they affect your child’s overall attendance percentage and may be subject to monitoring.

We understand that occasional lateness can happen for a variety of reasons. If you are experiencing difficulties that are impacting punctuality, please don’t hesitate to contact us so we can work together to support you.

Thank you for your understanding and continued support in ensuring your child attends school on time every day.

Please be advised that if a student is absent from school for two unauthorised consecutive days then a member of the pastoral team will contact home via telephone and after three unauthorised consecutive days, a member of staff will carry out a home visit to check that everything is okay, even if a phone call has already been received from a parent or carer.

This is part of our commitment to safeguarding and ensuring the wellbeing of all our students. We appreciate your understanding and support in this matter.

Medication in School

If you have any questions or concerns regarding medication in school, please contact the SEND Department. Students should not bring medication into school and any medication should be registered at reception. If your child is diagnosed as being asthmatic, following on from medical guidelines, please ensure they have an inhaler on them at all times and that we hold a spare within school. Many thanks.
