Year 7 Parents' Evening

Emails have been sent to Y7 parents to invite them to book slots for the upcoming parents' evening on Thursday 26th March.

Y11 Support Evening

There is an event for Y11 parents/carers on Monday 23rd March aimed at helping support final preparations for GCSE exams that will start after the half-term break. The meeting will run from 5.30 – 6.30pm in the school hall. Letters have been emailed home with more information.

Wirral Schools Health & Wellbeing Survey 2026

Letters have been sent home this week to parents of students in years 8 and 10 who will be taking part in this survey this week.

HPV Vaccinations

HPV vaccinations are scheduled for 21st May 2026 for pupils in Y8.  Parents can expect to receive further information soon.  Pupils were spoken to in assembly this week by a member of the health team about the reasons for being vaccinated.  Parents will be asked to provide consent after spring break, so please keep an eye on emails.

Operation Prospect

We will be hosting Operation Prospect in school in partnership with Merseyside Police on Friday 27th March. This initiative focuses on reducing serious violence, particularly knife and gun crime in Merseyside, while also raising awareness of exploitation. It will be delivered to students in years 8, 9 and 10.

Rotary Club Dinner

This week we hosted the annual Wallasey Rotary Club dinner for 90 guests from local care homes.  Two student bands opened the evening's entertainment, whilst other students provided table service.  The professionalism and hospitality of the students was fantastic.  Everyone commented on how welcome they were made, and a good time was had by all.  The evening closed with a performance by the band of our very own Mr. Bradshaw on the double bass.  Next year will be our last year hosting this event in this building, so we are already thinking ahead to the first dinner in our new school!

The Study Process – Your AI study assistant

Students are increasingly using AI platforms (such as ChatGPT, Gemini, etc.) for homework, assessment, and revision, which puts them at risk of academic malpractice. Social media, especially TikTok, is full of videos about how not to get caught when using AI. However, learning is a process and requires effort. The Study Process was created to ensure that if students are going to use AI (which they will in ever-increasing numbers), the AI should at least support learning rather than replacing it. Built by our very own Mr Power from sixth form, it’s an AI study assistant designed with students' needs at its heart. Instead of giving finished answers, it guides students to explain, analyse, and evaluate their knowledge, aligned with the assessment framework they are studying, helping them build the skills associated with higher grades, all at their current level.

Students can use it for: revision and exam preparation, flashcards and study sheets, exam-style questions, essay and coursework planning and even includes access to study music.

Reporting an Absence

Parents must telephone the school attendance line (0151 638 8131, option 1) on the first day of absence before 8.45am and on each subsequent day of absence. Alternatively, you can email attendance@mosslands.wirral.sch.uk. Please do not use the admin@mosslands email or the contact school option on the My Child at School app as these do not go directly to attendance, and you may still get a truancy call. It is our duty to keep your child safe, so if you do not inform us, you will receive a truancy call. You will receive 6 further calls until you respond.  The number which will display as an incoming call is a Sheffield number, 0114 303 4042.

If a student arrives at school after 9:15 AM, when the registers officially close, their late arrival is recorded as a U code. This code means the child is present on site, but too late to receive a present mark — and as such, it is recorded as an unauthorised absence.

Please be aware that repeated U codes can lead to further action, as they affect your child’s overall attendance percentage and may be subject to monitoring.

We understand that occasional lateness can happen for a variety of reasons. If you are experiencing difficulties that are impacting punctuality, please don’t hesitate to contact us so we can work together to support you.

Thank you for your understanding and continued support in ensuring your child attends school on time every day.

Please be advised that if a student is absent from school for two unauthorised consecutive days then a member of the pastoral team will contact home via telephone and after three unauthorised consecutive days, a member of staff will carry out a home visit to check that everything is okay, even if a phone call has already been received from a parent or carer.

This is part of our commitment to safeguarding and ensuring the wellbeing of all our students. We appreciate your understanding and support in this matter.

Medication in School

If you have any questions or concerns regarding medication in school, please contact the SEND Department. Students should not bring medication into school and any medication should be registered at reception. If your child is diagnosed as being asthmatic, following on from medical guidelines, please ensure they have an inhaler on them at all times and that we hold a spare within school. Many thanks.
