I would like to welcome all our students back to the start of another busy summer term.  Congratulations go to the Y11 and 13 students who have been busy this week in their exams.  I am delighted by the effort put in by so many of our students and look forward to their results in the summer.  For any Y11 or 13 students who have not yet got a destination or employment for September, I urge you to make contact with our careers team, so that we can support you to find a positive placement.

The new build continues to make rapid progress with many of the ground beams now in place. We look forward to the steel frame arriving from 15th June.  From this point on, there will be visible progress as the school comes out of the ground.  During the delivery of the steel, there are likely to be large lorries using Mosslands Drive, so I would urge all parents wherever possible to avoid using Mosslands Drive to drop off or pick up children.  It would be easier and safer to pick them up in Wallasey Village.  If you have to use Mosslands Drive, please do not park in front of the school or opposite, obstructing our neighbours, who already have to put up with the increased traffic caused by the construction.

As the weather warms up, many families will be spending more time near water – whether at the coast, rivers, lakes, or canals. While this can be a great way to enjoy the outdoors, it’s important to remember that water can be unpredictable and dangerous.

It’s important that everyone is aware of a few simple steps to stay safe:

  • Know the risks – conditions can change quickly, and it’s easier than you might think to get into difficulty in open water.
  • Always supervise children and young people closely around water – even if they can swim.
  • Avoid jumping into unknown water – there may be hidden hazards, and sudden entry can lead to cold water shock.
  • Teach children what to do if they get into trouble: Float to Live – tilt your head back, keep your ears submerged, relax and gently move your hands and feet to stay afloat while you control your breathing.
  • Know how to call for help – in an emergency, dial 999 or 112 and ask for the Coastguard.

Talking to children about water safety before visiting any location near water can make a vital difference.

You can follow us on Instagram @art_mosslands to see some fabulous examples of the work produced by our students.

Reporting an Absence

Parents must telephone the school attendance line (0151 638 8131, option 1) on the first day of absence before 8.45am and on each subsequent day of absence. Alternatively, you can email attendance@mosslands.wirral.sch.uk. Please do not use the admin@mosslands email or the contact school option on the My Child at School app as these do not go directly to attendance, and you may still get a truancy call. It is our duty to keep your child safe, so if you do not inform us, you will receive a truancy call. You will receive 6 further calls until you respond.  The number which will display as an incoming call is a Sheffield number, 0114 303 4042.

If a student arrives at school after 9:15 AM, when the registers officially close, their late arrival is recorded as a U code. This code means the child is present on site, but too late to receive a present mark — and as such, it is recorded as an unauthorised absence.

Please be aware that repeated U codes can lead to further action, as they affect your child’s overall attendance percentage and may be subject to monitoring.

We understand that occasional lateness can happen for a variety of reasons. If you are experiencing difficulties that are impacting punctuality, please don’t hesitate to contact us so we can work together to support you.

Thank you for your understanding and continued support in ensuring your child attends school on time every day.

Please be advised that if a student is absent from school for two unauthorised consecutive days then a member of the pastoral team will contact home via telephone and after three unauthorised consecutive days, a member of staff will carry out a home visit to check that everything is okay, even if a phone call has already been received from a parent or carer.

This is part of our commitment to safeguarding and ensuring the wellbeing of all our students. We appreciate your understanding and support in this matter.

Medication in School

If you have any questions or concerns regarding medication in school, please contact the SEND Department. Students should not bring medication into school and any medication should be registered at reception. If your child is diagnosed as being asthmatic, following on from medical guidelines, please ensure they have an inhaler on them at all times and that we hold a spare within school. Many thanks.
