Congratulations to Y10 for persevering with examinations in quite difficult conditions given the heatwave.  As you will know, we have had to reschedule exams originally booked for Thursday afternoon. We look forward to completing this exam series over the next couple of days.  Y10 examinations will continue on Friday.

Unfortunately, due to the very high temperatures today, we have had to close early.  On Friday, normal lessons will resume for KS3 students. All students will be allowed to wear shorts and t-shirts. We ask that clothing is without slogans and suitable for school.

On Monday, students must attend in full school uniform as the weather returns to more normal temperatures.

Careers Information from Placed Academy

Applications are now OPEN for PLACED Academy Foundations, our two-day FREE programme of creative activities & live project opportunities for young people, in years 7,8 & 9, who are interested in the built environment and live in Northwest England.

PLACED Academy is designed to tackle barriers young people face in accessing professional careers in the built environment, including architecture, planning, urban design and landscape architecture. We seek to support greater diversity in the sector, enabling young people to develop a wide range of skills, grow in confidence and feel empowered to shape the places of the future.

The programme runs for 2 days (12th and 13th August). It's focused on a live project in Liverpool City Centre, where the programme will be held. You will be expected to travel to Liverpool both days for a 10am start. It is free to attend!

You can find out more about the programme and who sponsors us on www.placed-academy.com. Our BRAND NEW website!

Applications close Sunday 26th July, there are just 35 places available. The link to the application form is HERE.

As part of the programme, young people will:

  • Develop knowledge and skills in design, communication, problem-solving, leadership, teamwork and public speaking

  • Grow in confidence, input on real-life projects, and feel empowered to shape future decisions about where they live

  • Learn more about careers in the built environment and opportunities available to them and be mentored by professionals from the sector, gaining unique insight

Literacy News

Recently, we received a visit from Liverpool poet, Joseph Roberts, along with Merseyside Police. During the visit, Joseph – whose work has featured across multiple media and streaming platforms - presented his poem Dear Merseyside. The poem is a love letter to the county that features problems touching on gang culture and knife crime before talking about solutions and reflecting on the ‘love where you live’ ethos of Merseyside Police's EVOLVE operation!

Following on from this, we held a competition for Y7 and 8 pupils to write their own poems entitled 'Dear Merseyside'. In their poems, they identified key issues facing Merseyside communities, what their home means to them and presented calls to inspire everyone to keep trying to make Merseyside a better place to live. We received a huge number of entries from our Y7 and 8 forms and a winner was selected from each. Congratulations to Noah L, Jack S, Olly P in Y7 and Finley J, Max H, Isaak W and Isaac F in Y8 who enjoyed breakfast with Mr Whiteley and received an Amazon voucher!

Library

In honour of World Refugee Day on Saturday 20th June and Refugee Week, our library lessons have focused on stories about refugee experiences and perspectives. We encourage our students to deepen their understanding of the impact of forced migration and displacement and there is no better way than with a good story. Here are some of the wonderful books on this subject that can be taken out today!

Reporting an Absence

Parents must telephone the school attendance line (0151 638 8131, option 1) on the first day of absence before 8.45am and on each subsequent day of absence. Alternatively, you can email attendance@mosslands.wirral.sch.uk. Please do not use the admin@mosslands email or the contact school option on the My Child at School app as these do not go directly to attendance, and you may still get a truancy call. It is our duty to keep your child safe, so if you do not inform us, you will receive a truancy call. You will receive 6 further calls until you respond.  The number which will display as an incoming call is a Sheffield number, 0114 303 4042.

If a student arrives at school after 9:15 AM, when the registers officially close, their late arrival is recorded as a U code. This code means the child is present on site, but too late to receive a present mark — and as such, it is recorded as an unauthorised absence.

Please be aware that repeated U codes can lead to further action, as they affect your child’s overall attendance percentage and may be subject to monitoring.

We understand that occasional lateness can happen for a variety of reasons. If you are experiencing difficulties that are impacting punctuality, please don’t hesitate to contact us so we can work together to support you.

Thank you for your understanding and continued support in ensuring your child attends school on time every day.

Please be advised that if a student is absent from school for two unauthorised consecutive days then a member of the pastoral team will contact home via telephone and after three unauthorised consecutive days, a member of staff will carry out a home visit to check that everything is okay, even if a phone call has already been received from a parent or carer.

This is part of our commitment to safeguarding and ensuring the wellbeing of all our students. We appreciate your understanding and support in this matter.

Medication in School

If you have any questions or concerns regarding medication in school, please contact the SEND Department. Students should not bring medication into school and any medication should be registered at reception. If your child is diagnosed as being asthmatic, following on from medical guidelines, please ensure they have an inhaler on them at all times and that we hold a spare within school. Many thanks.
