Inclusive Attendance Award

We are delighted to share some wonderful news. The school was recently presented with a Bronze Award from Inclusive Attendance in recognition of outstanding commitment to a comprehensive and sustainable whole school attendance approach.  The award is a formal accreditation awarded to schools that demonstrate a deep, relational commitment to improving student attendance through supportive and inclusive practices.

Attendance is fundamental to pupil success and wellbeing. When pupils are present in school, they have access to the full breadth of our curriculum, can build meaningful relationships with their peers and staff, and have the opportunity to develop both academically and personally. The work undertaken by our leadership team has created a culture where attendance is valued and supported across the entire school community.

The Bronze Award from Inclusive Attendance reflects the calibre of thinking and action that goes into this vital area of school life. It recognises that excellent attendance outcomes are achieved through whole school commitment – from staff who monitor and respond to patterns, to pastoral teams who provide targeted support, to families who work alongside us, and to pupils themselves who understand the importance of being present.

Building Our Future: A Milestone Moment for Mosslands!

We are thrilled to share an exciting update on our school's £61 million redevelopment. Recently, our students, staff, and project partners came together for a special steel signing ceremony, marking a major milestone in the construction of our brand-new school building.

Before the latest steel structural beam was lifted into place, our boys had the unique opportunity to sign their names on it—literally leaving their permanent mark on the history and future of Mosslands!

"This development will deliver a world-class facility that our boys truly deserve—a vibrant, modern learning environment designed to inspire curiosity, ambition, and achievement for generations to come. This is about so much more than steel, bricks, and mortar. It's an investment in our boys, in their families, and in the future of our local community." — Mr. Whiteley, Headteacher

The construction is progressing brilliantly, and we are right on track to see this incredible new chapter for Mosslands come to life. Thank you to all our families for your ongoing support as we build a school environment our students can truly be proud of!

If your child has asthma of any form, please can you make sure they have an inhaler on them at all times and also a spare one in the main office. If your child has had an asthma review recently, and you need to update us, please can you contact the SEND department.

Berlin Trip

We recently returned from our international trip to Berlin. Despite the extreme heat, the boys enjoyed our trips to the Reichstag, Sachsenhausen Concentration Camp, the DDR Museum, Spy Museum and the Topography of Terror. Throughout the entire trip, our boys were extremely well-behaved and showed great care at the sites we visited, something our guides routinely told us. It gives us tremendous pleasure to see our boys enjoying their time with their peers and staff in a setting that isn't school and certainly reminds us why we became teachers. We look forward to taking another 40 boys to Rome next year, in even more heat! Mr. White.

Library

Our Book of the Week this week is What Happens Online by Nathanael Lassore and focuses on the theme of empathy. Existor is the most popular guy in school, Fred is a loser with no friends and nobody knows that they are the same person. But then Fred sees an opportunity to use Existor's notoriety to spread outlandish rumours about his classmates online. Will Fred have to answer for his crimes? Will he ever find someone who will like him for who he really is?

Art Department

You can follow us on Instagram @art_mosslands to see some fabulous examples of the work produced by our students.

Prints of paintings produced by our students on Bob Ross Day are available to buy on MCAS. Please email art@mosslands.co.uk or message us on Instagram to let us know which print you wish to order.

Reporting an Absence

Parents must telephone the school attendance line (0151 638 8131, option 1) on the first day of absence before 8.45am and on each subsequent day of absence. Alternatively, you can email attendance@mosslands.wirral.sch.uk. Please do not use the admin@mosslands email or the contact school option on the My Child at School app as these do not go directly to attendance, and you may still get a truancy call. It is our duty to keep your child safe, so if you do not inform us, you will receive a truancy call. You will receive 6 further calls until you respond.  The number which will display as an incoming call is a Sheffield number, 0114 303 4042.

If a student arrives at school after 9:15 AM, when the registers officially close, their late arrival is recorded as a U code. This code means the child is present on site, but too late to receive a present mark — and as such, it is recorded as an unauthorised absence.

Please be aware that repeated U codes can lead to further action, as they affect your child’s overall attendance percentage and may be subject to monitoring.

We understand that occasional lateness can happen for a variety of reasons. If you are experiencing difficulties that are impacting punctuality, please don’t hesitate to contact us so we can work together to support you.

Thank you for your understanding and continued support in ensuring your child attends school on time every day.

Please be advised that if a student is absent from school for two unauthorised consecutive days then a member of the pastoral team will contact home via telephone and after three unauthorised consecutive days, a member of staff will carry out a home visit to check that everything is okay, even if a phone call has already been received from a parent or carer.

This is part of our commitment to safeguarding and ensuring the wellbeing of all our students. We appreciate your understanding and support in this matter.

Medication in School

If you have any questions or concerns regarding medication in school, please contact the SEND department. Students should not bring medication into school and any medication should be registered at reception. If your child is diagnosed as being asthmatic, following on from medical guidelines, please ensure they have an inhaler on them at all times and that we hold a spare within school. Many thanks.
