Congratulations to all pupils who have been on reward trips this week, and were lucky enough to enjoy such good weather. This has been a very successful year for the school and my thanks go to all our parents and carers for their ongoing support.

Parents will have seen a message about the Friday weather forecast with temperatures predicted to reach between 28 and 30 degrees. As a result, boys can wear shorts and T-shirts, or just their school trousers and shirt – no blazers or ties required on Friday.

As the forecast is changing on a daily basis, we will look at the temperatures forecast for next week and communicate our uniform expectations as the picture becomes clearer.

School will finish at approximately 1pm next Thursday (16th July) to start the summer break.

New York Fundraising Sponsored Walk

Tomorrow's sponsored walk has been postponed due to the anticipated high temperatures. The event will now take place in September.

KS3 Awards Evening

On Monday evening, we are looking forward to welcoming the parents of our KS3 boys who have been nominated for an award. This evening is a lovely way to round off the year and celebrate the achievements of our KS3 students.

Trips

Our DofE Award expeditions are out from Monday to Wednesday next week. Students will be camping on the shores of Ullswater in Cumbria and navigating around the surrounding fells, no doubt making the most of the forecast good weather.

A group of Y9 history students will be visiting the Western Approaches Museum in Liverpool on Monday as a reward for their hard work and engagement in their history lessons this year.

Library

During the summer holidays, students can access thousands of eBooks and audiobooks for free using the Sora App. Once the app is downloaded, students simply need to login using their Google Classroom email and password. Happy reading!

Keep students reading this summer with access to First News, the UK's award-winning newspaper for young people, age 7–14 for FREE! Click the link, fill in a short form, and your login details arrive by email on 9 July, ready for the holidays: https://subscribe.firstnews.co.uk/summer-reading-2026/?fn=RUDD7079

Y10 Geography Reward Trip

Our Y10 geography students recently enjoyed a well-deserved reward trip following their hard work and commitment throughout the year. The day began with a scenic coastal walk, giving students the opportunity to appreciate the local landscape while putting some of their geographical knowledge into context. They then enjoyed a fun game of bowling before rounding off the trip with a well-earned ice cream. It was a fantastic day!

Paris 2026

We recently returned from our Paris trip, where 30 boys enjoyed an unforgettable few days exploring some of the city's most famous landmarks and attractions. Highlights included visits to Roland Garros, the Parc des Princes, the Eiffel Tower, Montmartre, the Louvre Museum, the Arc de Triomphe and a magical finale at Disneyland Paris.

Throughout the trip, our boys were a real credit to the school, and we could not be more proud. They embraced every opportunity to experience the French language and culture, whether speaking confidently with locals, ordering food in French or trying traditional delicacies such as escargots. It was a pleasure to see their enthusiasm, curiosity and growing confidence. Moments like these definitely remind us why we became French teachers.

Thank you to all the students for making the trip such a memorable week. We are already looking forward to taking another group of 32 boys to Paris in 2027!

Art Department

You can follow us on Instagram @art_mosslands to see some fabulous examples of the work produced by our students.

Reporting an Absence

Parents must telephone the school attendance line (0151 638 8131, option 1) on the first day of absence before 8.45am and on each subsequent day of absence. Alternatively, you can email attendance@mosslands.wirral.sch.uk. Please do not use the admin@mosslands email or the contact school option on the My Child at School app as these do not go directly to attendance, and you may still get a truancy call. It is our duty to keep your child safe, so if you do not inform us, you will receive a truancy call. You will receive 6 further calls until you respond.  The number which will display as an incoming call is a Sheffield number, 0114 303 4042.

If a student arrives at school after 9:15 AM, when the registers officially close, their late arrival is recorded as a U code. This code means the child is present on site, but too late to receive a present mark — and as such, it is recorded as an unauthorised absence.

Please be aware that repeated U codes can lead to further action, as they affect your child’s overall attendance percentage and may be subject to monitoring.

We understand that occasional lateness can happen for a variety of reasons. If you are experiencing difficulties that are impacting punctuality, please don’t hesitate to contact us so we can work together to support you.

Thank you for your understanding and continued support in ensuring your child attends school on time every day.

Please be advised that if a student is absent from school for two unauthorised consecutive days then a member of the pastoral team will contact home via telephone and after three unauthorised consecutive days, a member of staff will carry out a home visit to check that everything is okay, even if a phone call has already been received from a parent or carer.

This is part of our commitment to safeguarding and ensuring the wellbeing of all our students. We appreciate your understanding and support in this matter.

Medication in School

If you have any questions or concerns regarding medication in school, please contact the SEND Department. Students should not bring medication into school and any medication should be registered at reception. If your child is diagnosed as being asthmatic, following on from medical guidelines, please ensure they have an inhaler on them at all times and that we hold a spare within school. Many thanks.
