Duke of Edinburgh's Award Expedition
Our DofE Bronze (Year 10) and Gold (Sixth Form) groups enjoyed an exciting three-day expedition in the stunning surroundings of Ullswater and Patterdale in the Lake District. Throughout the trip, students developed their navigation, teamwork and self-reliance while taking on the challenges of the Lake District's beautiful fells.
Monday – After arriving at the campsite, students worked together to pitch their tents and prepare for the expedition ahead. Once camp was established, both groups headed onto the surrounding fells to practise map reading, compass skills and navigation techniques. The afternoon provided the perfect opportunity to build confidence in the terrain while taking in spectacular views across Ullswater.
Tuesday – Under clear blue skies and warm sunshine, students tackled a demanding day of walking. Navigating independently using maps and compasses, both groups demonstrated growing confidence and resilience as they made key route decisions, supported one another over challenging terrain and embraced the independence that lies at the heart of the Duke of Edinburgh's Award.
Wednesday – The expedition concluded with both groups successfully navigating the full length of Ullswater, putting into practice everything they had learnt over the previous two days. Their teamwork, determination and navigation skills were evident throughout, making the final day's challenge a fitting end to a highly successful expedition. Students returned home with a real sense of achievement and memories that will last for years to come.
