Visiting School – Appointments with Staff

We are always keen to work closely with parents and carers and understand that there may be times when you would like to speak with a member of staff.

To help us ensure that the appropriate member of staff is available, we ask that parents and carers do not arrive at school expecting to meet with staff without a pre-arranged appointment.

There are particular times during the school day when pastoral and senior staff are deployed around the school on duties, supporting pupils and ensuring that our safeguarding and supervision arrangements are fully in place. Staff are therefore not available to leave their duty positions to meet with parents or carers during the following times:

8:20am – 9:15am
10:55am – 11:10am
12:50pm – 1:40pm
3:15pm – 3:40pm

If you would like to speak with a member of your child’s house team, please contact the relevant house office or department to arrange an appointment:

Faraday House: faraday@mosslands.wirral.sch.uk

Grenfell House: grenfell@mosslands.wirral.sch.uk

Ruskin House: ruskin@mosslands.wirral.sch.uk

SEND: nicolatreanor@mosslands.wirral.sch.uk

Safeguarding: safeguarding@mosslands.wirral.sch.uk

The house team will arrange for the appropriate member of staff to contact you or agree a suitable appointment time.

Parents or carers who arrive at school without a pre-arranged appointment will be asked to make an appointment and return at the agreed time. This ensures that staff can give you the time and attention required without compromising the supervision and safeguarding of pupils.

Thank you for your understanding and for supporting us in maintaining a safe and well-supervised school environment.

Y11 GCSE Support Evening

On Monday 12th October, we will be holding a support evening for Y11 students to help them with revision for their upcoming mock examinations. Our intention is for students to attend with their parents to get advice on what they can be doing in school and at home to help them over the next month. This is their first test run at their GCSEs and students have shown us their hard work during their lessons this term and attendance at exam readiness sessions. This next stage is looking at what students are doing at home to support their learning and this evening is crucial in supporting that. If you are planning on coming, then please follow the Microsoft form that was emailed out to you to confirm attendance. We hope to see you Monday.

Drama

Mrs Brett took the KS4 and KS5 drama pupils to the Liverpool Everyman Theatre last week to watch an incredibly moving and groundbreaking production of Death of a Salesman. This was a fantastic opportunity for all 30 pupils, who were a pleasure to take out for the afternoon. All minds greatly inspired!

Drama Club - Monday 3:30 - 4:15. Great to see some new Y7 faces this week!

Drama Club is open to ALL year groups - everyone is welcome.

Cadets

Congratulations to Sgt. Ashton Mountford, who has been honoured with the prestigious Lord-Lieutenant’s Award.

This is an award that recognises Ashton's dedication to cadets. He regularly supports our cadet unit and puts his heart and soul into everything he does. We are very proud of him!

Library

Thank you to everyone who bought books from the Scholastic Book Fair last week. We had a very successful week and earned £250 in reading for pleasure books for our school that will be hitting the library shelves next week!

It is also Space Week this week and here are a few of the many space books that we have available in our school library.

Reporting an Absence

Parents must telephone the school attendance line (0151 638 8131, option 1) on the first day of absence before 8.45am and on each subsequent day of absence. Alternatively, you can email attendance@mosslands.wirral.sch.uk. Please do not use the admin@mosslands email or the contact school option on the My Child at School app as these do not go directly to attendance, and you may still get a truancy call. It is our duty to keep your child safe, so if you do not inform us, you will receive a truancy call. You will receive 6 further calls until you respond.  The number which will display as an incoming call is a Sheffield number, 0114 303 4042.

If a student arrives at school after 9:15 AM, when the registers officially close, their late arrival is recorded as a U code. This code means the child is present on site, but too late to receive a present mark — and as such, it is recorded as an unauthorised absence.

Please be aware that repeated U codes can lead to further action, as they affect your child’s overall attendance percentage and may be subject to monitoring.

We understand that occasional lateness can happen for a variety of reasons. If you are experiencing difficulties that are impacting punctuality, please don’t hesitate to contact us so we can work together to support you.

Thank you for your understanding and continued support in ensuring your child attends school on time every day.

Please be advised that if a student is absent from school for two unauthorised consecutive days then a member of the pastoral team will contact home via telephone and after three unauthorised consecutive days, a member of staff will carry out a home visit to check that everything is okay, even if a phone call has already been received from a parent or carer.

This is part of our commitment to safeguarding and ensuring the wellbeing of all our students. We appreciate your understanding and support in this matter.

Medication in School

If you have any questions or concerns regarding medication in school, please contact the SEND Department. Students should not bring medication into school and any medication should be registered at reception. If your child is diagnosed as being asthmatic, following on from medical guidelines, please ensure they have an inhaler on them at all times and that we hold a spare within school. Many thanks.
