A Message from Mr Whiteley

This morning, we said farewell to our Year 11 boys with a celebration featuring popcorn, candyfloss and hot dogs.  We recognise that they have worked really hard over the last 12 months and have conducted themselves in an exemplary fashion in their exams.  We wish them all the best for the future.

Next week, Year 10 have their examinations and should attend school as normal every day as their usual Y10 timetable will run when boys are not in an exam.

As you may have heard in the national press, there is planned further industrial action on 5th and 7th July.  Our intention in the face of this industrial action would be to keep Year 7 and Year 12 in school on Wednesday 5th July and Year 10 and 12 in school on Friday 7th July.  Transition Day for Year 6 students has moved to Thursday 6th July which coincides with an activity day for Y8.  I will keep you updated if there is any progress on the industrial action.

On Thursday 29th June, school will close at 2.20pm to allow us to prepare for Open Evening. School will be open from 6-8pm to welcome students from Year 5 and their parents to look at all the great things we have to offer here at Mosslands!

Science Competition

We are looking for some budding artists to help create the design for two of our mobile science library book boxes that will travel around Ogden Trust Partnership schools. This box will be full of exciting science books and activities that you can take home to investigate and explore.

The competition is to design a science-themed decoration for one of the book boxes. You need to complete the design on an A4 piece of paper and hand it to one of your science teachers by Friday 7th July.

The winning designs will be painted onto the book boxes with your name highlighted as the artist. Winners will also receive a prize!

Free Office365 Apps

Parents will soon receive an email explaining how, as part of our license agreement, all students are entitled to download a variety of Microsoft 365 applications onto their home devices absolutely free of charge. This includes popular applications such as PowerPoint, Word, Excel, and OneNote that can be used by all the family! To access these applications, students will need to use a school-issued Office 365 login. Usernames and passwords, as well as instructions with how to download the software, will be sent out with the email. Please keep an eye on your inboxes over the coming days.

Normandy 2024 & New York 2025

An exciting trip to Normandy in 2024 was launched this week to boys in years 8 & 9. If you would like your son to be considered for a place on this trip, please pay the deposit as soon as possible, as we expect it to be a very popular trip.

The meeting for parents about the New York trip is on Wednesday at 6.15pm. It is open to boys currently in years 7 & 8.

Library

Book of the Week this week is Lark by Anthony McGowan.  Things are tense at home for brothers Nicky and Kenny, so they head off to the Yorkshire Moors for a trek to clear their heads, only a series of unforeseen circumstances leave the brothers in a dangerous and vulnerable position. There might even be a chance that not everyone makes it home alive.  A fantastic read for our reluctant readers in dyslexia friendly format, this is a story that can't be missed!

Bike Marking Event

Merseyside Police will be running another bike marking day on Friday 7th July from 1pm. We are aware that this is now a strike day, but non teaching staff will be available on site with the police. If you wish the bike to be marked, please follow the link to the Google form and complete, as the police need all the details in order to properly register and mark the bicycle.

Bike marking does not mean that the police can track the whereabouts of your son! We have been asked this so many times. It is so that we can return a bike to the owner if it is stolen and later recovered. So many lads last time would have had their bikes marked if this myth wasn't being spread around.

You can follow us on Instagram @art_mosslands to see some fabulous examples of the work produced by our students.

Fundraising

As mentioned in the newsletter last week, a recent round of fundraising resulted in a cheque being handed to the RNLI by boys from Year 8. Well done to all concerned!

Medication in School

If you have any questions or concerns regarding medication in school, please contact the SEND Department. Students should not bring medication into school and any medication should be registered at reception. If your child is diagnosed as being asthmatic, following on from medical guidelines, please ensure they have an inhaler on then at all times and that we hold a spare within school. Many thanks.
