Y7 Parents' Evening

This is on Thursday 14th March in school. Parents should have received information on how to book their appointments.

Calendar Changes

On Tuesday 12th March, pupils will finish school an hour early at the end of Period 5, 2:20pm, to allow all staff to attend a training session that we have organised supported by the ADHD Foundation, with whom we are working to become an ADHD friendly school.  This training will allow us to support the growing number of children who are receiving this diagnosis.

On Thursday 28th March, the last day of term, pupils will be leaving at lunchtime 12:40pm. A packed lunch will be available on request for boys in receipt of free school meals.

School will reopen after the Easter break on Tuesday 16th April following a staff training day on Monday 15th April as the school switches to a new information management system.

Iceland Trip

Students have been having an amazing time on the Iceland trip. Miss Stewart has been sending us regular updates.

Day 1 - We stood between the continents of North America and Europe at the bridge between two continents, where we saw some impressive geography. Then we went on to the Gunnuhver hot springs to see some exciting geothermal action. The day finished off at the Reykjanes lighthouse, with a look at the incredible coastlines and the basaltic pillow lavas.

Day 2 - We started the day off in true Icelandic style with a relaxing dip at the Secret Lagoon; a naturally occurring hot spring. We then moved onto the Gullfoss waterfall and tested our geographic knowledge on the formation of this impressive landform. Next we headed to see the impressive display from Strokkur geyser, followed by a taste of the locally produced ice cream despite the cold temperatures outside. We finished the day with a scenic walk through the Thingvellir National Park. Here the students walked through the rift of the Eurasian and North American plates and learnt about the local history of the area being the world's first democratic parliament. The day wouldn't be complete without an obligatory snowball fight.

Day 3 - Early start to the day seeing the epic forces of nature at the high tec, interactive lava centre and seeing Iceland's active volcanoes in the distance.
Then onto the impressive Skogafoss waterfall and a challenging 500-step climb to the top of the cliff for a view of the falls below. The morning was completed with a visit to the Sólheimajökull Glacier. In the afternoon we visited Vik, the most southerly settlement in Iceland. The day would not be complete without a visit to the beautiful black sand beaches and the impressive basalt columns and hugely powerful waves setting a scene to remember. The day finished off with a trip to the Seljalandsfoss waterfall.

Further updates next week!

Library

Today was World Book Day, which kicked off with our wonderful staff dressing up once again as book characters and looking fantastic!

A selection of our Y7 and 8 boys took part in a live Premier League event with the National Literacy Trust and answered questions on football and reading and did fantastically well.

Our Reading Trail took place throughout the day with boys finding clues on classroom doors of teachers' favourite book when they were a child.

Congratulations to the winners!

1st: Alfie Greer

2nd: Frankie Greer

3rd: Joseph Niccolls

Students in years 7 and 8 have received their £1 World Book Day token to spend in store on a £1 World Book Day book or get a £1 off a full-price book.  Students in years 9-13 can pop to Mrs Barton in the library or ask an English teacher for their token. Tokens are valid until the end of March.
