A Message from Mr Whiteley

Huge congratulations go out to our Year 11 boys on their exemplary work and effort on their GCSEs this year.  We are very proud of them and are looking forward to some good results.  This Friday, 21st June is Clearing Day, where Y11s can come into school in their uniform for an hour to say goodbye to their friends and colleagues over some food and drinks.

This week our Y10 geography students have been busy doing GCSE fieldwork in North Wales, measuring rivers and footpaths and counting pedestrians on Moel Famau.

Our Y14s have now finished their exams and have gone off to enjoy the summer.  Some have enrolled in Camp America, before settling down in September at university or in their new jobs.

Y10 have exams next week and are in lessons as normal when not in an exam. Y12 also have exams on Monday and Tuesday and are on study leave.

MFL are planning a trip to Paris & Disneyland in 2025 for students currently in years 8-9. The 5-day trip will take place from 30/06/2025 to 04/07/2025 and the total cost of the trip will be approximately £645. The price includes accommodation, executive coach travel from Mosslands to Paris and back, travel insurance, breakfast each day and four evening restaurant meals. The included activities will range from visiting the Eiffel Tower, the Louvre, the Stade de France and even the Palace of Versailles, with a full day at Disneyland! Places are limited and will be filled on a first come first served basis. If your son would like a place on this fantastic trip, please pay a deposit of £150 by July 5th by ParentPay, cash or cheque. If you would like any further information or have any questions, please speak to Miss K Owens or any MFL teacher.

The Munich trip which was launched recently has now been opened up to students in Y7.

There will be a meeting for parents for the New York trip in school on Thursday 27th June at 6pm.

The Normandy trip leaves on Monday. A kit list and important information was emailed home to parents on Wednesday.

Library

Our next Readathon will take place next Friday, 28th June, and our wonderful students will once again complete a sponsored read to raise money for the Read for Good charity that helps to raise money for local children's hospitals. If your child would like to take part, please send them to the library to sign up. You can sponsor a child online or donate to this charity using the following link and searching for The Mosslands School: https://readathon.my.salesforce-sites.com/sponsor/R4G_SponsorPupilFindSchool1 A huge thank you to anyone who is able to support this event!

Attendance

Reporting an Absence

Parents must telephone the school attendance line (0151 638 8131, option 1) on the first day of absence before 8.45am and on each subsequent day of absence. It is our duty to keep your child safe, so if you do not inform us, you will receive a truancy call. You will receive 6 further calls until you respond.  The number which will display as an incoming call is a Sheffield number, 0114 303 4042.

Holidays in term time

We would like to remind all parents that, as clearly shown on our website, holidays in term time are not authorised and are subject to fines. This is in line with government and local guidance.

Punctuality

A reminder that students should be on the school site at 8.40 am and in their form rooms by 8.45am.  Good timekeeping is a skill for life and is referred to in all references.  We ask all parents to ensure that their sons leave for school in good time.

You can follow us on Instagram @art_mosslands to see some fabulous examples of the work produced by our students.

Medication in School

If you have any questions or concerns regarding medication in school, please contact the SEND Department. Students should not bring medication into school and any medication should be registered at reception. If your child is diagnosed as being asthmatic, following on from medical guidelines, please ensure they have an inhaler on then at all times and that we hold a spare within school. Many thanks.
