A Message from Mr. Whiteley

Once again, we find ourselves at the end of another busy and successful term. In March, 77 students travelled to Austria on the ski trip and another 69 travelled to New York. This short term also included Y11 mock exams, theatre visits, art trips, STEM days, parents' evenings, even more debating success, Y10 work experience and the finals of the Y7&8 Spelling Bee competitions. It is definitely time for a well-deserved break.

For students in years 11 and 13 however, the need for rest and fun should be balanced against preparation for examinations which start early in May. So please support your son in helping make time for revision and exam preparation over the holiday period as well as finding time for relaxation.

Designs for the new building and surrounding pitches etc. are now finalised and building work is expected to be underway early in the autumn term, once the planning application process is complete. I would like to thank all those who have given such positive feedback to the planning consultation. The overwhelming support for this project has been incredibly helpful and will lead to our boys having a world-class facility which we can all be proud of.  I think we all agree that our boys deserve a better facility than we have at the moment and the proposed building will not only give them that, it will also enable much better access to a wide range of facilities for the whole community.  We are very excited in anticipation of the work beginning.

As the weather is starting to warm up and summer arrives, I would remind all students that in the summer term, coats are not to be worn in the building, while blazers are. These are not interchangeable, so please do not permit your son to wear a coat and “forget” his blazer. I know this has been an issue since we had the lockers removed, but until the new building arrives, we will have to continue to manage without them.

All students finish at 12.40pm tomorrow for the Easter break. We re-open on Tuesday 22nd April after the Easter bank holiday weekend. All pupils start at their normal time.

I wish you all a safe and relaxing Easter and look forward to seeing all the boys back in school on 22nd April.

Y7 Parents' Evening

This event starts at 4pm this afternoon, and is a chance for parents to discuss their son's progress so far in his first year at Mosslands.

Debate Mate

This week saw another successful outing for the debate team with two out of three wins in the competition on Wednesday in Liverpool.  To date, that's six successful debates out of seven. An extremely impressive feat.

We also took enough students for a B team who had their fair share of debating and were so impressed they are going to continue coming to the club, which is great news.

Well done to all the boys who took part: Zicko Forbes, Joseph Niccolls, Joshua McCabe, Oliver Kilty, Blake King, Jack Atherton, Adam Mason, Isaac Markham & Jaxson Clark.

Animal Farm

Last night, Mrs Brett took drama students to the Liverpool Playhouse to see a production of George Orwell's Animal Farm. On the train home, it was fabulous to hear the boys animatedly discussing the performance and giving their opinions on it.

School Meals Price Increase

Reluctantly, due to the continued increase in food and other costs, we have made the difficult decision to increase the cost of a meal deal from £2.75 to £3.00. This change will take effect from 30th April.

Attendance Drop In Sessions

On Friday 25th April, there are two drop-in sessions for parents of boys in years 9 & 10. Anyone with any concerns regarding attendance can drop into these sessions for an informal chat.

The bake sale raised £198.18 for Chester Zoo last week.

Reporting an Absence

Parents must telephone the school attendance line (0151 638 8131, option 1) on the first day of absence before 8.45am and on each subsequent day of absence. Alternatively, you can email attendance@mosslands.wirral.sch.uk. Please do not use the admin@mosslands email or the contact school option on the My Child at School app as these do not go directly to attendance, and you may still get a truancy call. It is our duty to keep your child safe, so if you do not inform us, you will receive a truancy call. You will receive 6 further calls until you respond.  The number which will display as an incoming call is a Sheffield number, 0114 303 4042.

Medication in School

If you have any questions or concerns regarding medication in school, please contact the SEND Department. Students should not bring medication into school and any medication should be registered at reception. If your child is diagnosed as being asthmatic, following on from medical guidelines, please ensure they have an inhaler on then at all times and that we hold a spare within school. Many thanks.
