The Ketamine Crisis

Last week, staff received CPD training on drug use.  There was a particular focus on ketamine, and we were informed that many cities across the UK have seen a worrying rise in ketamine use, particularly amongst teenagers.  Social media has also played a dangerous role in glamorising ketamine use. Platforms like TikTok and Snapchat are filled with videos of young people ‘k-holing’, a terrifying state of dissociation and paralysis that some now see as entertainment. This online culture is normalising drug use and making it seem like a harmless joke when it’s a direct route to addiction, long-term harm and, in some cases, death.  Families are being torn apart as parents struggle to cope with children whose personalities are changing due to prolonged use. And our local emergency services, already under immense pressure, are dealing with more ketamine-related incidents, from overdoses to violent outbursts caused by intoxication.

Please refer to the attached leaflet which provides further information.

If you have any concerns about ketamine and wish to speak to a member of our safeguarding team, please contact the school on 638 8131 or email safeguarding@mosslands.wirral.sch.uk

Ski Trip Italy 2026

The ski trip is still available to pay on the MCAS app. Use the trips menu option to find it. Parents who have already paid may assume that their child has a place unless they hear from Mr Murray to the contrary.

Wirral Cup Results

Year 8 lost 4-1 to Calday. Louis Pumford put us ahead just before half-time, but Calday regrouped and managed to equalise shortly after. In the second half, Calday managed to grab the lead, and although Mosslands pushed to get back into the game, it eventually became too difficult, and we were caught on the counter-attack chasing the equaliser.

Year 9 lost 2-1 to Woodchurch. Woodchurch started well and took the lead just before half-time. They doubled their advantage after the break to give us a mountain to climb. However, the team responded well with Charlie Milward scoring directly from a corner. On a day when the finals produced some very special goals, Charlie's was certainly one of them! Mosslands pushed for an equaliser and thought they had it when Ellis Harding's shot appeared to have crossed the line; however, the referee waved play on. A good performance from the lads, but they will have to go again next year!

The Sixth Form team won in a tight game v Calday! Calday started brighter and put Mosslands under pressure. A goal inside 15 minutes for Calday had us on the back foot, and they even rode their luck, conceding a second that was ruled out for offside. Shortly before the break, a moment of brilliance from George Gryba made it 1-1 with an audacious left-footed chip that floated over the Calday goalkeeper. In the second half, our goalkeeper, James McIntyre, became the difference between the two teams. He made a number of great saves in normal time, before becoming the hero in the penalty shoot-out, making a great save to give Sol Woltman the chance to win the game from the spot. Unfortunately, Sol missed, only to be saved by the referee, who saw the goalkeeper off his line. Sol made no mistake the second time around!

Well done to all involved and special mention to the supporters who came along to cheer our teams on.

Make it in May

Our students are currently collecting stamps every morning and every afternoon they are in school. Students that have 100% attendance throughout May and June will each receive a prize in July.  Students are very excited about collecting their stamps and receiving their prize.

Art Department

You can follow us on Instagram @art_mosslands to see some fabulous examples of the work produced by our students.

Reporting an Absence

Parents must telephone the school attendance line (0151 638 8131, option 1) on the first day of absence before 8.45am and on each subsequent day of absence. Alternatively, you can email attendance@mosslands.wirral.sch.uk. Please do not use the admin@mosslands email or the contact school option on the My Child at School app as these do not go directly to attendance, and you may still get a truancy call. It is our duty to keep your child safe, so if you do not inform us, you will receive a truancy call. You will receive 6 further calls until you respond.  The number which will display as an incoming call is a Sheffield number, 0114 303 4042.

Medication in School

If you have any questions or concerns regarding medication in school, please contact the SEND Department. Students should not bring medication into school and any medication should be registered at reception. If your child is diagnosed as being asthmatic, following on from medical guidelines, please ensure they have an inhaler on then at all times and that we hold a spare within school. Many thanks.
