A Message from Mr Whiteley
As we come to the end of what has been a very busy and successful school year at Mosslands, we can look back at the year and say that we are proud of the improvements we have made in creating an environment where students are starting once again to thrive academically and personally, after the damage that was caused nationally during the pandemic. The school's commitment to this continuous improvement is evident through the various reports we receive, the extensive enrichment opportunities we offer, and our increasingly strong community partnerships.
We have had two external reviews this year from which we received really positive feedback and reassurance. We were praised for leading "with warmth and ambition in equal measure," and for the strong values that underpin the school's ethos.
The reviews recognised the positive impact of the 'no phones' policy and commended the inclusive culture that has developed. They also noted the warm and positive relationships in lessons with clear and consistent classroom routines that supported students' readiness to learn and that teachers knew students individually.
We eagerly await the start of the building phase of our new school, which is now only a matter of weeks away. While we wait for the wonderful new building to emerge, we are continuing to develop as a school, investing in technological solutions like AI, whilst maintaining the core focus on student welfare and academic attainment, successfully introducing both the new Esports suite and a new cashless catering system with facial recognition technology this term.
This year I must also congratulate our Year 11 and 13 students for their absolutely exemplary conduct and effort in their examinations. They were a credit to us all. I hope that their results will reflect this hard work and effort. Clearly, we are heading in the right direction.
At this time of year, we prepare to say farewell to a number of staff members. As always, I would like to thank them for all of their support, hard work and time. I wish them well for the future and remind them that they are always welcome to come back and visit as part of our Mosslands family.

Over the course of the year, our students have had the chance to experience an extensive range of educational visits and partnerships, including STEM collaborations with Liverpool University, Liverpool John Moores University and Edge Hill University. We have also had a range of other careers initiatives, including, most recently, a visit from Bentley Motors (along with a very nice car) and a very successful World of Work Day run in partnership with Wilmott Dixon, the construction team who will be building our new school. They described our boys as “outstanding young men” and “better than any other school they’d worked with."
This year, our pupils have also been skiing in Austria, on a sports tour in New York, and visited Berlin and Paris. The Duke of Edinburgh's Award programme continues to engage and excite students, with both the Gold and Bronze groups completing their expeditions in North Wales this term. Meanwhile, our cadets experienced a number of training camps and real-life flying experiences, with some students actually flying a light aircraft in the summer term, which was more tricky, it seems, than the flight simulators!
These opportunities not only reflect the willingness of our staff to give up their time and go the extra mile for our students, but also the ambition we have to give our students every opportunity to experience everything that the world has to offer.
In sport, the school's football teams have once again achieved notable success, with the 6th Form first team winning the county football championship and both year 8 and 9 teams losing out in closely competed finals at Prenton Park.
The school maintains its strong community links, particularly supporting Wallasey Village Library through the sponsored Readathon and by hosting coffee and chat sessions for families, which have been well-received. As a Science Hub, this year we have really enjoyed hosting a range of primary school science workshops and I am particularly proud of the way our students have interacted with the primary boys, girls (and teachers). It is great to see their confidence growing as they explain scientific processes to younger pupils.
The school hosted a very successful and well-attended open evening which received excellent feedback, followed by an excellent transition day, ensuring smooth preparation for incoming students. Although the new year group is larger than last year, and we expect this trend to continue, we do still have spaces for September.
This has been a very productive year for us, but we couldn’t do it without your continued goodwill and support. I would like to thank you for all the time you have given supporting us, for encouraging your sons to give their time to support the school and for all the kind words and messages received this year.
Finally, I would like to draw your attention to the school reopening arrangements.
