A Message from Mr Whiteley

To all of our new Year 7 parents, I would like to wish you a very warm welcome to The Mosslands School.  We are delighted to have such a keen and enthusiastic group of students in our care, and we are looking forward to a really successful year.  For all other students, welcome back. You will hear that we are building on the successes of last year, and we have changed some of our internal structures in the pursuit of continuing improvement.

Our first few days of term have been really rewarding, particularly for our Year 11 students, who have returned with purpose.  For these students, this is a very important but also a very short year.

Can I remind all parents that students should arrive at school prepared to learn?  That means full school uniform, a bag, phone pouch and a pencil case with essential equipment such as pens, pencils, and a ruler.  If you're experiencing any difficulties with this, please don't hesitate to contact your son's house office. We’re here to help and have a uniform store available to support families with items such as blazers, ties, and shoes where needed.

We now anticipate construction of our new building will begin in November.  Although this may cause some disruption to the playing fields on Wallacre, it will not interrupt our school day.  I will keep you updated on the progress of this really exciting project.

I look forward to a successful year.

Letter for all parents from the Prime Minister

Canteen

We wanted to take a moment to clarify how the school’s food system works, particularly for students who are eligible for Free School Meals (FSM), as we’ve had a few queries from families new to the school.

Students who receive Free School Meals are automatically given a daily allowance of £3, which can be used at lunchtime only. Please note that this allowance is not available during breakfast or morning break.

Yesterday, a few FSM students attempted to buy food at morning break and were unable to do so, as their balance only becomes available at lunch. A couple of students then believed they had no money at all and did not try to get food at lunchtime, which we’re keen to avoid in the future.

To clarify:

  • The £3 FSM allowance is available at lunchtime only.

  • Students will not be refused food at lunchtime, regardless of their FSM status.

  • Additional money can be added to students' accounts if they would like to purchase food at breakfast or break, or buy extra items.

We hope this clears up any confusion. If you have any questions or would like support adding funds to your child’s account, please don’t hesitate to contact us.

Berlin 2026

The third deposit of £70 for the trip to Berlin in June 2026 is due on 15th September. This will bring the total amount paid to £390 so far with an outstanding balance of £365. This final balance is not due until April 2026 and can be paid in a lump sum or instalments. If you were to pay per month, it would work out at £52 per month. If you have any questions regarding the trip, then please email lukewhite@mosslands.wirral.sch.uk.

Iceland Trip

There is a short meeting for parents on Monday at 5.30pm in the school hall. Please ensure you bring your son's passport to the meeting. It will be kept in the school safe until departure.

Drama Club

This will begin on Monday 8th September 3:20 - 4:15 in the drama studio and is open to all year groups.

Library

The library is back and open as normal, students must get a pass from Mrs Barton at breaktime in order to access the library at lunchtime.

Reporting an Absence

Parents must telephone the school attendance line (0151 638 8131, option 1) on the first day of absence before 8.45am and on each subsequent day of absence. Alternatively, you can email attendance@mosslands.wirral.sch.uk. Please do not use the admin@mosslands email or the contact school option on the My Child at School app as these do not go directly to attendance, and you may still get a truancy call. It is our duty to keep your child safe, so if you do not inform us, you will receive a truancy call. You will receive 6 further calls until you respond.  The number which will display as an incoming call is a Sheffield number, 0114 303 4042.

If a student arrives at school after 9:15 AM, when the registers officially close, their late arrival is recorded as a U code. This code means the child is present on site, but too late to receive a present mark — and as such, it is recorded as an unauthorised absence.

Please be aware that repeated U codes can lead to further action, as they affect your child’s overall attendance percentage and may be subject to monitoring.

We understand that occasional lateness can happen for a variety of reasons. If you are experiencing difficulties that are impacting punctuality, please don’t hesitate to contact us so we can work together to support you.

Thank you for your understanding and continued support in ensuring your child attends school on time every day.

Please be advised that if a student is absent from school for three consecutive days, a member of staff will carry out a home visit to check that everything is okay even if a phone call has already been received from a parent or carer.

This is part of our commitment to safeguarding and ensuring the wellbeing of all our students. We appreciate your understanding and support in this matter.

Medication in School

If you have any questions or concerns regarding medication in school, please contact the SEND Department. Students should not bring medication into school and any medication should be registered at reception. If your child is diagnosed as being asthmatic, following on from medical guidelines, please ensure they have an inhaler on then at all times and that we hold a spare within school. Many thanks.
